<p>The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a 9-month full-time faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for undergraduate students enrolled in programs in biotechnology, biology, pre-medicine, and life sciences. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching lecture and laboratory courses to undergraduate students. Subject matters will include biochemistry, and may also include cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, as well as associated laboratory courses. The faculty member will engage in teaching, service and scholarship activities, work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the Chair of the Department of Math and Natural Sciences, and support various undergraduate programs, including our BS in Biotechnology. Additionally, the faculty member will provide mentorship to students and contribute to the visibility, impact and reputation of the University and its programs through research and scholarly engagement. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.</p> <ul> <li>Teach large enrollment course in biochemistry to undergraduate students. </li><li>Teach undergraduate courses such as molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics. </li><li>Develop and teach laboratory offerings in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and genetics to undergraduate students to cultivate skills in current techniques. </li><li>Utilize engaging, student-centered teaching strategies and diverse assessment methods to foster active learning and accurately measure achievement of course objectives. </li><li>Provide assignments and assessments that demonstrate and reinforce real-world applications of life science topics as it pertains to biology, biotechnology, medicine, and life sciences research </li><li>Provide mentoring of undergraduate students in lab research. </li><li>Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria. </li><li>Participate in service activities; serve on committees; serve on regional, state, or national organization committees and volunteer activities; represent the program and University in/at community functions; attend School and institutional activities such as Commencement and ceremonies; and support student activities such as health fairs and service projects. </li><li>Participate in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual. </li><li>Use the University's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students. </li><li>Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms. </li><li>Provide service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment. </li><li>Attend and participate in monthly School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, and other major events, and serves as a member of University, School and/or Department committees, as assigned. </li><li>Contribute to periodic reviews and revisions of departmental course offerings. </li><li>Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise. </li><li>Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean and Department Chair. </li></ul> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>PhD. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. </li><li>Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the college/university level. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to implement innovative, student-centered teaching strategies and diverse assessment techniques that promote active learning and measurable achievement of learning outcomes. </li><li>Experience with basic and advanced laboratory skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics, relevant to current techniques used in biotechnology and life sciences research </li><li>Area of lab research that can be performed with undergraduate students. </li><li>Commitment to undergraduate education and student success. </li><li>Evidence of teaching excellence, including evaluations from supervisors and students. </li><li>Knowledge and experience leveraging educational technology in teaching. </li><li>Excellent organizational and communication skills. </li><li>Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni). </li><li>Record of scholarly activities commensurate with an academic appointment. </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Work requires sitting, standing and walking as part of classroom and laboratory instruction. </li><li>Must be able to use technology, such as typing and manipulating a mouse/mouse pad </li><li>Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and maintain good physical mobility to support laboratory instruction and operation. </li></ul> <p>Compensation</p> <p>The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.</p> <p>Hiring Range: $77,000 - $105,000</p> <p>Assistant Professor: $77,000 - $86,000</p> <p>Associate Professor: $85,000 - $95,000</p> <p>Professor: $94,000 - $105,000</p> <p>Apply</p> <p>Please attach a cover letter and a curriculum vitae/resume.
