<p>The principal is responsible for all aspects of the building which include, but are not limited to instruction, curriculum, staff supervision and evaluation, staff development, student discipline, student assessment, record keeping, public relations, budget, energy consumption, and maintenance of building and grounds. Responsible for the development and improvement of the educational program in his or her school. The teachers and other personnel of the school shall be directly responsible to the principal for the satisfactory fulfillment of the duties assigned to them. The principal shall administer and supervise his/her school in accordance with policies and regulations prescribed by the School Committee and the Superintendent of Schools. He/she leads by example.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):</p> <p>Develops the educational program of his or her school in accordance with the Norton Public Schools' Strategic Plan and School/District Improvement Plans and the needs of the students in the particular school. Directs planning activities and implements programs to ensure attainment of the school's common mission.</p> <p>Guides and encourages the school's professional staff in its educational work and professional growth, so as to secure continuous improvement while promoting healthy growth and adjustment of students academically, socially, and emotionally. Communicates and promotes standards and high expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognizes excellence and achievement.</p> <p>Creates an environment wherein teachers and students achieve mutual understanding, a high sense of morale and the best working conditions.</p> <p>Takes all precautions to safeguard the safety, health and well being of students and staff members. Formulates plans for crisis situations. Reviews findings of the eight to ten fire/safety drills held during the year, in coordination with police and fire departments.</p> <p>Maintains positive cooperative relationships with parents and the community, while upholding the educational program of the school. Uses appropriate techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.</p> <p>Consistently reports to the Superintendent of Schools regarding the conditions and needs of the school.</p> <p>Develops, implements, and maintains the school budget. As such the principal will: estimate the financial requirements and make requisitions for supplies, equipment and other items required by the school, according to the established Purchase Order Protocol.</p> <p>Ensures careful use of the buildings, grounds and other property of the schools. In case of damage, defacement or loss of property, ensure that the responsible student or employee makes good the cost of replacement.</p> <p>Achieves a high standard of discipline through mutual understanding, parent cooperation, and reasonable consequences for not meeting school and district behavioral expectations. Ensures that school expectations are consistently observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Handbooks and School Committee Policy.</p> <p>Maintains knowledge and involvement with State and Federal Special Education regulations, procedures, timelines, student service delivery and associated issues.</p> <p>Supervises participation in the school cafeteria program to the extent of ensuring a program that will be in the best interests of the students under his or her charge.</p> <p>Reports teacher absences, secures substitute teachers, reports truancy, approves pupil dismissals and reports school funds showing receipts, expenditures, and balances for the town audit.</p> <p>Establishes yearly measurable goals for the school. Progress towards these goals will be reviewed periodically and a written report forwarded to the Superintendent of Schools.</p> <p>Ensures that accurate records for all students including cumulative records, grades, attendance, etc. are kept in accordance with State and Federal records regulations.</p> <p>Supervises and evaluates all certified and non-certified personnel with the assistance of Academic Coordinators and other district directors. Utilizes district-appropriate tools and procedures.</p> <p>Implements curriculum changes in conjunction with the Academic Coordinators and designated Central Office personnel. Monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and utilizes findings to take corrective actions.</p> <p>Assists in the planning and implementation of professional development, often in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent and other school administrators in pursuit of goals identified in the District Strategic Plan. Identifies, analyzes, and applies research findings and data to promote school improvement.</p> <p>Serves as a facilitator between staff members in the school and staff members of other schools in the district.</p> <p>Fosters collegiality and team building among staff members. Demonstrates professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serves as a role model for all staff.</p> <p>Attends all administrative meetings and implements program suggestions or changes.</p> <p>Inspires a shared vision for comprehensive integration of technology and fosters an environment and culture conducive to the realization of that vision. Integrates appropriate technologies to maximize learning and teaching. (In accordance with ISTE standards.)</p> <p>Applies technology to enhance professional practice and to increase productivity and that of others. Understands the social, legal, and ethical issues related to technology and models responsible decision making related to these issues. (In accordance with ISTE standards.)</p> <p>Holds regular meetings of all instructional staff to keep them informed and advised of duties, policies, and possible curriculum changes.</p> <p>Completes all DESE reports and surveys in a timely manner.</p> <p>Positively promotes his/her school and district through district sanctioned communication channels.</p> <p>Creates, implements, monitors, and reports on Improvement Plans as needed.</p> <p>Regularly attends professional development offerings as a means of enhancing the school's capacity to deliver evidence based instruction and maintain high academic and behavioral standards.</p> <p>Discharges such other administrative responsibilities as the Superintendent of Schools shall assign.</p> <p>Regularly attends extracurricular events, including but not limited to, athletics, fine arts showcases, STEM/STEAM offerings, Honors ceremonies, and community/district sponsored offerings.</p> <p>Serves as the leader of the school's Chronic Absenteeism team and regularly updates the Superintendent of Schools regarding ongoing efforts to increase school attendance.</p> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
