<p>THE POSITION</p> <p>The Sanitarian Trainee role with the Department of Environmental Protection offers a chance to make a real impact on community health. This position supports the safety of public drinking water while helping you build valuable technical skills. You will grow your expertise through hands-on field work and supportive training. Join a team that works every day to protect the environment and the people of Pennsylvania.</p> <p>DESCRIPTION OF WORK</p> <p>In this position, you will support the Safe Drinking Water Program by ensuring public water systems follow state rules and protect community health. The work you will do focuses on inspecting systems, reviewing information, and helping operators meet safety requirements. As a Sanitarian Trainee, you will perform the following duties:</p> <ul> <li>Field Inspections: Conduct inspections of public water systems and review data to check that operations follow state drinking water standards </li><li>System Reviews: Evaluate water system records, plans, and equipment to confirm that safe practices are being used </li><li>Public Assistance: Provide information to operators, officials, and the public to support understanding of regulations and water safety issues </li><li>Sampling Activities: Collect water samples and verify laboratory results to ensure quality standards are met </li><li>Compliance Support: Identify problems and recommend steps operators must take to correct issues and maintain compliance </li></ul> <p>Interested in learning more? In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.</p> </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or </li><li>A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or </li><li>An equivalent combination of experience and training. </li><li>Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license. </li></ul> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position.
