<p>SUMMARY: The counselor/social worker is responsible for providing mental health, drug and alcohol assessments for juveniles involved in the juvenile court system. Upon assessing the juvenile, recommendations for services are provided to the court. The counselor may continue to provide counseling services to juvenile and family. All duties for this position must be done in a confidential manner pursuant to AR Code Annotated 9-27-309.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.</p> <p>Perform mental health, drug and alcohol assessments.</p> <p>Provide a written report and make recommendations for appropriate services for the juvenile and family.</p> <p>Make appropriate referrals to youth service or mental health community providers.</p> <p>Staff cases with juvenile officers for appropriate recommendations and services.</p> <p>Provide crisis intervention services as needed to juveniles involved in the juvenile court system.</p> <p>Provide testimony in court as needed.</p> <p>Provide individual, family and group counseling.</p> <p>Research, develop and provide psycho-educational group services.</p> <p>May assist in training of juvenile probation staff in areas related to treatment and behavior management of adolescents.</p> <p>Maintain record keeping of court-ordered juveniles, including progress notes, court reports, manage a counseling provider caseload as directed by the chief probation officer.</p> <p>Input and collect data for counseling services, assessments, and program records. Submit reports and other data on timely basis. Maintain appropriate storage of confidential material. Provide records for review upon request as licensing and professional confidentiality allow.</p> <p>Report to the Child Abuse and Neglect hotline of all reports of abuse within 24 hours of the initial report.</p> <p>Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Probation Officer or Circuit Judge.</p> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Must possess excellent oral/written communication skills, interpersonal relations and problem solving skills. The person in this position must be adept at interacting with the general public, county personnel and persons from other agencies. They will have frequent and regular contact with clients, their parents and other professionals or agencies that have an interest in this adolescent.</p> <p>The incumbent must be a self-starter and generally works independently. The employee will have considerable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner and/or sequence of performance of their own work operations.</p> <p>The employee must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. The employee must have sufficient self-confidence and analytical ability to be able to assess and direct juveniles who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and/or emotionally dysregulated.</p> <p>The employee must be able to use a computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine and multi-line telephone.</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>The incumbent must possess a Masters Degree in Counseling from a clinically focused program. Must have credential as a Licensed Counselor in the state of Arkansas. Two or more years of experience working with adolescents are preferred.</p> <p>OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:</p> <p>Must have continuing education per their licensing requirements. Preference is given to additional hours of training that include drug/substance abuse issues, mental health areas, abuse and sexual abuse, dysfunctional family problems, divorce, etc. Bi-lingual is preferred, but not required.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk or hear, use hand to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.</p> <p>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Due to the nature of the clientele the worker must interact with, there is a possibility of a hostile work environment in which a client may be physically violent.</p> <p>The Counselor must be able to mediate and intervene between parents and juveniles in crisis situations and to work under stressful conditions.</p>
