<p>Leadership Opportunity</p> <p>Director of Special Education</p> <p>Duxbury Public Schools</p> <p>The Duxbury Public Schools is seeking exceptional candidates to apply for the position of Director of Special Education beginning on July 1, 2025.</p> <p>The Director of Special Education is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of special education processes, programs, and curricula to meet the varying learning needs of the students in the Duxbury Public Schools. This is a role for an individual who is equally an effective manager, strategic thought leader, collaborator, listener, and implementer. The right candidate understands the art of utilizing staff efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of students and ensure equitable distribution of caseloads. The Director is a problem-solver who approaches the work with design thinking and is energized by the opportunity to reimagine the district's approach to serving all students and their families. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential components of this position.</p> <p>The minimum qualifications are:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree from an accredited institution with a broad background in special education, preK-12 education, alternative education, assistive technology, and related therapeutic services. </li><li>Certification from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Special Education Administrator. </li><li>Five or more years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience. </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Committee may find acceptable. </li></ul> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Oversees special education services for all students ranging in age from 3-22, school nursing department as it relates to medically fragile students, and Medicaid program </li><li>Responsible for students receiving special education services in an alternative settings that include other schools and agencies </li><li>Plans, directs, and coordinates the delivery of special education services in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations </li><li>Monitors the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs </li><li>Provides the Superintendent and Director of Business and Finance with regular updates on the changing variables in the budget </li><li>Assigns testing and evaluation responsibilities </li><li>Supervises and evaluates Special Education Team Chairs, behavior team members, related service providers, and teachers as requested and in conjunction with Building Principals </li><li>Recruits, screens, and recommends staff members for the various positions within the Special Education Department </li><li>Assists with Early Childhood Program and activities that includes community outreach and oversight of the Child Find process </li><li>Prepares the fiscal budget and evaluative reports as well as recommendations in the area of special education </li><li>Prepares and monitors state and federal grants </li><li>Oversees the management of Circuit Breaker and any associated audits </li><li>Oversees coordination of Special Education Transportation in conjunction with the Director of Business and Finance </li><li>Collaborates with general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, and consulting staff to develop collaborative and inclusive programs that serve all children </li><li>Attends and participates in meetings of the Duxbury Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) </li><li>Participates in appropriate meetings with member collaboratives </li><li>Plans ongoing professional development in conjunction with the Leadership Team </li><li>Coordinates all activities related to DESE oversight including Tiered Focused Monitoring, SSP Indicators, and Problem Resolution Services (PRS) </li><li>Capable of making professional judgments requiring technical knowledge and skills </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing </li><li>Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little supervision </li><li>All other duties assigned by the Superintendent </li></ul> <p>Salary is commensurate with experience and relevant licensure.
