<p>Scientist - Biology</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>The Biology Department is seeking a self-motivated, knowledgeable, and technically skilled researcher with expertise in the field of immunology or immuno-oncology who wishes to play a key role in advancing novel drug candidates from discovery into the clinic. Scientists at Arcus work in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues across the organization.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The successful applicant will be expected to lead elements of Arcus's programs providing in-depth knowledge, technical expertise, and insights necessary to advance drug development programs. These qualities will be utilized routinely to devise and implement a variety of in vivo and in vitro model systems. to build an in-depth understanding of biological datasets for Arcus drug targets and drug candidates. Scientists contribute both intellectually and experimentally as part of a multidisciplinary team, routinely collating and presenting data in both internal and external forums.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>PhD with 0-2 years of relevant industry experience. Strongly prefer 2+ years of postdoctoral experience also </li><li>Intellectual and experimental proficiency in various aspects of immunology gained through demonstrated research experience documented in presentations and publications </li><li>Practical experience using in vitro and in vivo tumor, autoimmune, and/or inflammation models </li><li>Expertise in common immunological experimental techniques including isolation and culture of primary immune cells and tissues (mouse and human), multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA (or equivalent method), qPCR, western blot, and transfection methods </li><li>Ability to identify, design, conduct, and interpret critical experiments necessary to advance programs </li><li>Ability to focus and deliver on time-sensitive objectives </li><li>Basic awareness of adjacent drug discovery activities (bioinformatics, biomarkers, screening) to facilitate cross-functional interactions and fully inform project goals </li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of presenting to diverse audiences and summarizing information </li><li>Experience authoring technical internal and external documents is a plus (posters, manuscripts, IND reports, investigator brochures) </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. • Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds. • Position may require repetitive motion. WORKING CONDITIONS: • May require working near blood borne pathogens. • May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research. • Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. • Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator. • May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs. *Consistent with its obligations under the law, the company will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of his or her job.</p> <p>This role is based at our Hayward, CA location and is a 5 days per week on-site laboratory-based role. The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this position is $135,000 - $160,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position. The actual salary may vary based on various factors including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, internal equity and alignment with market data.
