Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$72,100.00 - $111,850.00</p> <p>Overview The Supervisor of Landscaping Grounds provides supervision and coordination of grounds services supporting the Area Manager of the department. Directs and inspires a team of groundskeepers and other staff, providing daily campus maintenance, and coordinates services with internal and external customers and other service providers. Develops procedures and processes to improve service and quality continually. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Proven ability to supervise and coordinate daily grounds maintenance services. 2. Well-developed supervisory skills, including experience with coaching and performance feedback. 3. Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels. 4. Proven ability to maintain, manage, and prepare scheduling, word processing, and spreadsheet documents and reports. Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and database computer programs. 5. Ability to work irregular hours (as the job mandates), including weekend athletic events, emergency response, and special events such as move-in, move-out, commissioning, start-ups, commencement, reunions, etc. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Bachelor's degree in horticulture, landscape design, or related field. Experience with Maintenance Management Software. Experience supervising unionized employees.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Provides supervision and coordination of daily grounds maintenance services and develops and implements strategies to meet the changing needs of the customer base. Supports the operation of other facilities departments providing supervisory and technical support. Develops and incorporates innovative thought, technology, and best practices to continually improve services. 2. Provides administrative management, assessing and maintaining staffing needs, evaluating performance, dealing with employee relations and union concerns. Establishes work priorities and work schedules consulting with other Facilities supervisors to coordinate on-site work priorities and to ensure completion of work assignments in accordance with established specifications and standards. Ensures accurate record keeping. Inspects the work of employees and follows-up as required. 3. Assists in the development and implements strategies, and initiatives to meet the changing needs of an assigned unit. Incorporates plans for ongoing training of staff in grounds maintenance techniques and safety requirements. Develops the team to become a self-directed work force creating an atmosphere whereby grounds staff can exchange ideas incorporating innovation and creativity. 4. Administers capital equipment acquisition, inventory, obsolescence, and preventive maintenance programs. 5. Oversees the plans for the removal of snow and ice from campus properties utilizing both in house staff and contractors. Responds to all weather-related emergencies to include but not limited to snow, ice, rain, wind, and other unforeseen conditions that affect the campus grounds. 6. Utilizes horticultural expertise to help identify pest and other plant disease. Implements corrective strategies to limit or reduce occurrence using integrated pest management practices. 7. Oversees the maintenance and installation of irrigation systems to ensure that they operate efficiently and are maintained in good working order. 8. Reviews project requirements, determining the deployment of grounds staff, work methods and procedures, tools, equipment, and other materials needed. Coordinates supply and material acquisition and distribution to work teams. 9. Serves as the point of contact for customers and attends meeting to coordinate services for a variety of University events, such as Commencement and Reunions. Coordinates services with both external and internal service providers. Meets with college masters and deans, department heads, chairpersons, researchers, business managers, vendors, internal providers, and students. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
