<p>FLEET INTERN</p> <p>DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS</p> <p>CITY OF WORCESTER</p> <p>The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for a Fleet Intern for the Central Garage Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Senior Storekeeper, the Fleet Intern will work in the City's central garage and office, gaining practical experience in various aspects of fleet operations and maintenance. This position will assist in the stockroom, utilize computer skills to access and maintain inventory records, manage vehicle repair orders and open work orders through proper documentation and follow-up. Additionally, it involves observing and learning about the repair process as vehicles and equipment move through the shop, interacting with vendors and dealerships to support procurement, and collaborating with the garage crew to ensure efficient and timely completion of repairs.</p> <p>Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare and maintain records, files, daily activity reports, work orders, charge memos and service returns. </li><li>Provide customer service and respond to customer inquiries and complaints. </li><li>Communicate via radio with field crews to provide job-related information. </li><li>Enter, edit and update data in computerized work order system. </li><li>Complete inventory counts on stock items. </li><li>Manage the receipt, storage and distribution of materials. </li><li>Ensure all supplies match purchase orders and keep a record of all items. </li><li>Perform manual and clerical duties in the office. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Basic understanding of automotive tools and repair procedures </li><li>Strong time management skills and attention to detail. </li><li>Strong record keeping skills. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team. </li><li>Ability to operate standard office equipment. </li><li>Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and the public. </li><li>Computer proficiency, including the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and RTA </li><li>Excellent customer service skills </li><li>Ability to maintain professionalism with challenging customers and employees </li><li>Knowledge of data input and the use and maintenance of databases </li><li>Knowledge of record keeping practices including inventory management </li><li>Ability to keep accurate stock records and make reports when requested </li><li>Strength and ability to facilitate the handling of bulky and heavy stock items </li><li>Ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Currently enrolled in a high school </li><li>Excellent communication skills </li><li>Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Previous training/experience in an automotive environment </li></ul> <p>SALARY: $15.00 hourly, temporary, non-benefitted</p> <p>To apply, please visit: www.worcesterma.gov/employment or send resume and cover letter to: City of Worcester, 455 Main Street, Room 109, Worcester, MA 01608.
