<p>The Medical Assistant/Receptionist will assist in the delivery of care in the ambulatory setting under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or physician. This position will act as both a Medical Assistant and a Receptionist Scheduler.</p> <p>MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Medical Assistant Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under the direction of the practicing physician, physician assistant, or licensed nurse. </li><li>Assist with other clinical and clerical duties to ensure optimization of patient experience within the practice. </li><li>Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. </li><li>Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. </li><li>Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings. </li><li>Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results. </li><li>Schedule hospital procedures, surgeries, and tests. Precert and obtain test results. </li><li>Obtaining prior authorizations for medications </li><li>Handle phone calls and messages for prescriptions, notes, forms, etc. </li><li>Complete disability and insurance forms. </li></ul> <p>Receptionist/Scheduler Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Greets and directs visitors/patients courteously and professionally. </li><li>Obtains, verifies and/or updates patient demographic information. </li><li>Collects co-pay and copy of the patient's insurance identification card </li><li>Assists with answering and screening calls and the triaging process of all incoming telephone calls for urgent information or services. Schedules for appointments and records and forwards messages as required. </li><li>Responds to requests for routine information or assistance within scope of knowledge and authority and refers visitors to appropriate staff members as necessary. </li><li>Initiate calls as requested by Physician, Office Manager or other professional staff. </li><li>Responsible for opening/closing office duties as needed. </li><li>Maintains order of document processing area /supply closets, notifying Office Manager of the need to order supplies, ensuring all supplies are distributed upon receipt and kept in their designated areas. </li><li>Maintain copy machines, ensuring all supplies are on hand; call for repair when required. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Certification or Diploma from accredited Medical Assistant school/program required. </li><li>National Certification preferred. </li><li>Heart Saver OR BLS Certification required </li><li>Two years job experience is preferred. </li><li>Demonstrate basic computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel) </li><li>Demonstrates strong phone/customer service skills </li><li>Effective communication skills, both verbal and written English proficiency required </li><li>Demonstrate willingness to work in a team environment. </li><li>Demonstrate flexibility due to unexpected changes in workload. </li></ul>
