<p>Paper Machine - Machine Tender/Machine Lead</p> <p>Location: Circleville, OH, 43113</p> <p>Wage: $29.56 - $36.96 per hour (depending on experience)</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>SCOPE: Perform functions to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operation of the paper mill, monitor staff and identify and resolve operating and equipment issues guided by precedent and working within the limits of established policies. Continuously supports Sofidel's Employee Personal Practice Policy.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Support Sofidel America's Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace. </li><li>Ensure all operations are completed in a safe manner. Ensure harmonious operating environment. Address personnel problems to maintain an effective working environment and direct crew as required. </li><li>Work from written and verbal instructions as well as production schedule. </li><li>Monitor the operation of the paper mill, utilize computer systems to interpret mill activity and troubleshoot accordingly. </li><li>Use visual, auditory, and olfactory senses to examine equipment and identify potential issues, and ensure proper operation and product quality. </li><li>Check operation through observation of showers, tensions, chemical levels, mixtures and flow to ensure proper operation and quality of product. </li><li>Collaborate with mechanics, technicians and supervision as necessary to resolve operational issues. </li><li>Oversee stock preparation activities, maintaining appropriate soft and hard wood chest levels for designated product runs. </li><li>Monitor all phases of mill operation, provide direction to the crew to optimize operation, and report anomalies and inefficiencies. </li><li>Calculate process speeds and product levels, making adjustments for quality production. </li><li>Clean and service the machine, coordinating with the crew for service tasks. </li><li>Conduct first-level maintenance on the machine to ensure optimal operation. </li><li>Document test results, determine appropriate corrective action. Inform supervisor if paper quality falls outside established quality standards. </li><li>Prepare rolls for removal from the mill and coordinate the movement of jumbo rolls as necessary. </li><li>Participate in process improvement efforts, identify inefficiencies, recommend efficiencies, recommend improvements, and collaborate with outside contractors on special projects or repairs. </li><li>Assist with housekeeping duties and maintain the organization and cleanliness of the facility. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:</p> <ul> <li>Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies. </li><li>Maintain safe work area, follow safety procedures and equipment operating rules, and support quality, and sanitation standards. </li><li>Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to communicate issues, resolve, problems and stay informed about developments, requirements, and policies. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or general education degree (GED) </li><li>A minimum of 2 years' experience in a paper mill as a lead paper-machine operator </li><li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality procedure manuals </li><li>Ability to write routine reports and correspondence </li><li>Preferred experience in Tissue paper machine </li><li>Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) </li><li>Lift certification, overhead crane, clamp truck hoist and hand tools </li><li>Computerized machine controls </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.</p> <p>ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The Company has reviewed this job description to ensure that essential functions and basic duties have been included.
