<p>A medical scribe documents clinical information that is verbally communicated by physicians and other health care providers producing a clinical document which is incorporated into the clinical record. This position also serves as a Medical Assistant as needed.</p> <p>Education</p> <p>High School Diploma plus 1 year vocational school</p> <p>Experience</p> <p>Six months of related experience</p> <p>Licenses & Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Certified Medical Assistant </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Excellent written, communication and organizational skills. </li><li>In depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, sign and symptoms, medications, laboratory values, medical transcription guidelines and processes. </li><li>Other medical education, experience, certification or licensure including but not limited to RMA, LPN, BSN or RN may be considered in lieu of CMA certificate. </li><li>Prior experience with electronic medical record software and ability to use various computer software programs such as word processing and spreadsheet required. MS Word and Excel preferred. </li><li>Required qualifications includes six months experience as a Certified Medical Assistant and experience with electronic medical records. Previous experience as a Medical Scribe is preferred. </li><li>Six months job related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li></ul> <p>Area of Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Delivers transcribed report without blanks or incomplete information unless approved through supervisor. </li><li>Ensures compliance with external regulatory agency requirements such has those from the Joint Commission, CMS, RAC, OIG, etc. </li><li>List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as communicated or dictated by the provider. </li><li>Must be maintain a speed that does not impact provider productivity while maintaining at least a 98% accuracy rate. </li><li>Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc. </li><li>Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physicians encounter with the patient and others present. </li><li>Customer Service -Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills Communicates effectively with patients and management regarding service recovery opportunities. Works together with other team members to achieve Office and System customer service goals </li><li>Development -Maintain and update level of skill for pertinent medical assistant duties Participates in continuing education Participates in the development of new programs (ex: Process Improvement, Quality Initiatives) </li><li>Document any procedures performed by the physician. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management. </li><li>Patient Care - Demonstrates competency in patient care. Maintain patient?s safe passage in and out of the clinic, and ancillary services. Greet, assess and interview patients. Review present medications, allergy history, chief complaint, and brief interrogation of complaint. Update medication list and current problem list Obtain past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, vital signs. Anticipate needs of patients, and the provider. Prepare and assist patients for examination, treatment, or procedure by medical staff Monitoring of patient during examination, or procedure Administers injections, performs phlebotomy and or lab testing, wound care, suture removal, etc. as directed by provider. Obtains referrals and pre-certifications as necessary. Acts as a liaison between provider and patient. Explains medications, side effects, treatments, diets, diseases and disease processes Communicates with patients over the telephone. provides tests results, answers questions and responds to messages in a timely and provides clear documentation of this communication in the patient?s record. Maintains patient confidentiality. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li><li>Safety -Maintains working knowledge of medical equipment and removes faulty equipment from use as necessary. Participates in safety programs </li><li>Teamwork -Works well with others and functions as a team player. Offers ideas and solutions for issues that affect the team and work area. Stocking and ordering of supplies as needed. Maintains patient care areas. Participates in the training and skills development of new medical assistants. Assists in other areas of the office as necessary. </li></ul> <p>Compliance Statement</p> <p>Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Duties may involve the preparation of data on which the administration bases important decisions and are highly confidential.</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibility</p> <p>Exercises no supervision, work direction, or instruction of other employees or students</p> <p>Mental Demands</p> <p>Semi-routine duties of some variety and difficulty performed under general supervision and following general operating procedures and practices. Work involves some planning to select correct methods and correct for error.</p> <p>Physical Effort</p> <p>Moderate physical effort - Lifts, carries, or handles lightweight (1 to 25 lbs.) materials or equipment for about half of the day. Very occasional physical effort with medium weight objects (25- 60 lbs.). Office or laboratory work requires close visual effort and concentration more than half of day.
