<p>Director - Staff Development JobID: 2492</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Instructional -Admin - Central Office/Director Staff Development</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>12/10/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Instructional Staff Development - 430</p> <p>Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION</p> <p>HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES</p> <p>765 BROAD STREET, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY 07102</p> <p>ROGER LEÓN, SUPERINTENDENT</p> <p>Director - Staff Development</p> <p>(Pending availability of funds and Superintendent's approval)</p> <p>The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Director- Staff Development.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>New Jersey School Administrator Certificate (preferred). </li><li>New Jersey Principal Certificate. </li><li>New Jersey Teaching Certificate. </li><li>Three to five (3-5) years of supervisory experience, three of which were with proven success in professional development experience. </li><li>Ability to create a District-level professional development plan and program. </li><li>Ability to maintain a positive learning environment. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status *As defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates </li></ul> <p>BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Support the Superintendent's development of District leaders through monthly conferences and annual Executive Staff retreat. </li><li>Support the Deputy Superintendent's instructional initiatives, particularly the development of a monthly calendar of district professional development events. </li><li>Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Directors, and Supervisors to ensure that staff development initiatives are based on student achievement data. </li><li>Ensure the compliance of NPS school leaders and teachers with professional development requirements set forth by the State of New Jersey. </li><li>Provide orientation and ongoing support for novice teachers through the State's required Mentor program. </li><li>Facilitate the continual learning of school leaders and teachers through tuition reimbursement programs, summer study opportunities, workshops, National Teaching Standards Board Certification, and collaborative enterprises with area colleges and universities. </li><li>Review and approve tuition reimbursement applications and ensure compliance with eligibility criteria. </li><li>Facilitate the work of District committees involved in professional development activities. </li><li>Help design and participate in District-wide professional development activities to improve Staff Development learning. </li><li>Collaborate with the Office of Grants Development to develop proposals and monitor grant implementation. </li><li>Oversee the implementation of a support program for veteran teachers. </li><li>Support outside consultants contracted to provide professional development services to the District. </li><li>Engage collaboratively in school-wide and District-wide Staff Professional Development and/or Strategic Plan in an effort to build a shared vision and supportive culture, identify common goals, and monitor and evaluate progress towards those goals. </li><li>Respond to requests from principals and department heads for the creation of customised professional development and facilitation services. </li><li>Prepare and monitor annual office budget. </li><li>Ability to think strategically. </li><li>Ability to motivate and direct other staff members. </li><li>Ability to function as a team player in a variety of district collaborative teams. </li><li>Ability to facilitate the learning of district teachers and school leaders in a variety of venues. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of best practices in professional development. </li><li>Effective writing and speaking skills. </li><li>Knowledge of New Jersey requirements for continuing professional development for teachers and school leaders. </li><li>Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards </li><li>Knowledge of Professional standards for educational Leaders </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent</p> <p>SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD, AND UNION AFFILIATION</p> <p>Salary: $156,000-$184,053</p> <p>Employment period: 12 Month Calendar.</p> <p>Union Affiliation: City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.).</p> <p>HOW TO APPLY</p> <p>Newark Board of Education only accepts electronic applications.</p> <p>THE NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER</p>
