<p>The Registered Nurse (RN) - Nurse of the Day (NOD) assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, staffing units, and allocating resources as necessary during weekends, holidays, and after-hours tours during the absence of nursing management/leadership.</p> <p>The Nurse of the Day (NOD) delivers and coordinates safe, efficient, and effective patient care throughout all areas of the facility. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide care and directs others in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems. </li><li>Execute medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise authorized provider. </li><li>Primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community and the facility. </li><li>Position responsibilities demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care. </li><li>Plan and organize the delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. </li><li>Skilled in the delivery of patient care and serves as the facility nursing expert at all hours to provide and facilitate emergency medical support throughout the facility. </li><li>Serve as the facility expert for all patient care areas in identifying escalating medical crises, environmental factors, and in allocating staffing resources appropriately throughout the facility to meet the care needs of Veterans. </li><li>Use clinical knowledge and judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. </li><li>Function proficiently in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. </li><li>Evaluate current practice and formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise. </li><li>Guides, develops, and supports staff from a leadership perspective using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. </li><li>Demonstrates advanced leadership at the systems level that is sustainable, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex situations. </li><li>Assume authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, staffing units, and allocating resources as necessary during weekends, holidays, and after-hours tours during the absence of nursing management/leadership. </li><li>Responsible for rounding and is a consultant to providers. </li><li>Collaborate with the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) and other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed for decisions related to on-going patient care and actions taken in emergency situations and disasters. </li><li>Provide programmatic outcomes to nursing leadership to assist with improving organizational processes and the delivery of patient care. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years acute care experience, critical care experience preferred.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory</p> <p>Work Schedule: 1930-0800 (12 hour shifts)</p> <ul> <li>Night Differential Pay: The period commencing at 6:00pm and ending 6:00am will receive additional pay for each hour worked provided 4 or more hours fall between that time. When fewer than 4 hours fall between those hours, the differential is payable only for the hours worked between that time. This equals 10% of your basic hourly rate. </li><li>Weekend Pay (Premium Pay for work on Saturday & Sunday): Any part of which is between 12:00am Friday and 1200am Sunday is worked. This equals 25% of your basic hourly rate. </li></ul> <p>Compressed/Flexible: Compressed available.</p> <p>Telework: Not available.</p> <p>Virtual: This is not a virtual position.</p> <p>Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized.</p> <p>EDRP: Not Authorized.</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.</p>
