Advisors serve as integral members of their unit's team and may advise students across multiple majors within the unit.</p> <p>The college is seeking one Academic Advisor for the Communication and Humanities advising unit. This position may work with students majoring in Advertising, Communication Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations, Sports Media and Communication, and related programs.</p> <p>Successful candidates will:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Prioritize a student-centered approach to advising and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Have experience teaching, advising, or counseling students from a variety of backgrounds in both one-on-one and group settings.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate strong communication, organization, leadership, and time management skills.</p> </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Advise students on academic planning, degree requirements, university policies, and graduation progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Connect students to relevant campus resources such as counseling services, academic support, financial aid, and faculty mentorship.</p> </li><li> <p>Support or coordinate a learning community, which may include hiring, training, and supervising peer mentors and teaching an orientation or student success course.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in recruitment and orientation activities including individual and group visits, emails, phone calls, and program sessions.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist students in developing career goals in collaboration with faculty and career services professionals.</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to college-wide student success and retention initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve on departmental committees, including in an advisory capacity to curriculum committees.</p> </li></ul> <p>If you're someone who genuinely cares about academic and student success, this position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity.
