The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.</p> <p>Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.</p> <p>This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.</p> <p>Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. </p> <p>Job Duties:  </p> <p>As a Probation and Parole Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting public safety and supporting offender rehabilitation through supervision, guidance, and enforcement of court-ordered conditions. In this role, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to community resources addressing social adjustment, substance abuse, vocational rehabilitation, and mental health needs. </li><li>Enforce conditions of supervision and manage all aspects of the violation process under close supervision. </li><li>Conduct criminal justice social background investigations and prepare recommendations for courts, parole boards, pardon boards, and other criminal justice decision-makers. </li><li>Conduct arrests and transport violators while preparing reports and participating in probable cause and revocation hearings. </li><li>Investigate and determine victim restitution amounts; establish payment schedules; and collect and disburse restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice funds. </li><li>Administer drug testing procedures by obtaining urine samples and evaluating test results. </li><li>Ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards by adhering to required timelines, procedures, and operational guidelines. </li><li>Assist with jail operation audits for facilities housing Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC) inmates and perform contract compliance audits for Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs). </li><li>Conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates housed in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs). </li><li>Apply Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) defensive tactics, including the use of impact weapons, and supervise discretionary community service work performed by parolees. </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government.</p> <ul> <li>Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.  </li><li>An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.  </li><li>This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment.
