Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.</p> <p>Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; overtime may be required in emergencies. This is a high volume, production work environment. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents are regularly exposed to extremes of weather, dust, dirt, dogs and vermin and may be exposed to irate or hostile citizens. Work requires working in confined spaces, periods of prolonged walking and standing and repetitive bending and stooping to loosen and lift water meter vaults.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:</p> <p>Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. AND</p> <p>Experience: Have completed one year as an Utility Meter Technician I or have two years of relevant experience.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.</p> <p>NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.</p> <p>APPLICATION DEADLINE: Please submit your application no later than 12:00 AM on the closing date to be eligible for consideration.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of water meters and associated equipment. </li><li>Knowledge of industry safety practices and procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of basic computer skills necessary to operate handheld and or mobile devices. </li><li>Knowledge of meter reading and meter register dials. </li><li>Knowledge of the meter reading schedule and routes </li><li>Knowledge of the metering equipment and Fixed Network components. </li><li>Knowledge of meter hardware functionality. </li><li>Ability to read schedules, routes, street maps, names and addresses and to locate addresses in assigned geographic area. </li><li>Ability to learn meter operation procedures. </li><li>Ability to complete forms and reports. </li><li>Ability to perform arithmetic computations. </li><li>Ability to follow directives and instructions. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with consumers and others. </li><li>Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods. </li><li>Ability to perform repetitive bending and stooping </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Background Check</p> <p>Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.</p> <p>Probation</p> <p>All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.</p> <p>Eligibility</p> <p>Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.</p> <p>Education Accreditation</p> <p>Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.</p> <p>Selection Process</p> <p>All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application.
