<p>Position: Special Education Teacher - ISP (Integrated Support Program) K-1</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time</p> <p>Department: Special Education</p> <p>Location: Lowell</p> <p>Reports to: Principal and Director of Special Education</p> <p>Affiliation: WEA Unit A</p> <p>Salary range: Per WEA Unit A Salary Scale</p> <p>General Description</p> <p>Watertown Public Schools seeks an exceptional Special Education elementary teacher with an SEI endorsement who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who desire to serve where their efforts matter.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, and reading, using standards-based curriculum guidelines from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that correlate with appropriate learning activities and district standards to our K-1 students. </li><li>Adapt district curriculum materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. </li><li>Monitor and evaluate student progress and record student outcomes </li><li>Design and carry out developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as required by IEP goals/MA curriculum frameworks </li><li>Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs </li><li>Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement </li><li>Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety </li><li>Collect, analyze and maintain behavioral data on all students </li><li>Demonstrated ability in maintaining effective communication with administration, parents, counselors, and related service providers </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies: Using the Massachusetts Model System for Educators Rubric, priority skills and abilities that all Watertown Public School teachers should possess:</p> <p>Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment</p> <p>(Subject Matter Knowledge, Well-Structured Lessons, Curriculum and Planning Indicator, Child and Adolescent Development)</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates mastery of and enthusiasm for the content area and the pedagogy it requires </li><li>Can convey a grasp of child development and how students learn </li><li>Designs practical and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes. </li></ul> <p>Teaching All Students</p> <p>(Meeting Diverse Needs, Student Engagement, Safe Learning Environment)</p> <ul> <li>The special education teacher is responsible for the day-to-day classroom management and provision of instruction, including the development and implementation of the Individual Education Program (IEP) goals, assessment, and curriculum design at the Lowell Elementary ISP Program. The ISP Program is a specialized special education program that services students with social/emotional disabilities. </li></ul> <p>Family and Community Engagement</p> <p>(Parent/Family Engagement)</p> <ul> <li>Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning </li><li>Professional Reflection & Collaboration </li></ul> <p>Professional Culture</p> <p>(Reflective Practice, Professional Collaboration)</p> <ul> <li>Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development </li><li>Seeks to participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications - Required</p> <ul> <li>Education: Hold a Bachelor's degree. </li><li>Hold a Special Education License in Moderate Disabilities </li><li>Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified. </li><li>Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Massachusetts Model System for Educators as outlined above. </li><li>Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities required </li><li>Experience working with students with social/emotional disabilities </li><li>Skilled in behavior management </li><li>Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Watertown Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
