Renewal of appointment is contingent on program need, satisfactory performance and/or availability of funds.</p> <p>University of Hawai?i Community Design Center (UHCDC) is a service-learning program and teaching practice established and led by the University of Hawai?i (UH) School of Architecture, that provides a platform for applied research, planning, placemaking, and design involving UH faculty, staff, students, and partnered professionals across UH campuses, departments, and professional disciplines (https://www.uhcdc.manoa.hawaii.edu/).</p> <p>We partner with state, city, and county agencies, the University of Hawai'i, non-profit organizations, and community groups on public interest built environment work. Our collective seeks to ensure that diverse perspectives are reflected and integrated into public serving projects.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for applied research and analysis including but not limited to gathering ecological, economic, socio-cultural information related to agriculture, economic development, education, land use planning and design, and water resources. </li><li>Conduct literature, policy, and existing document reviews. </li><li>Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of stakeholder and community outreach, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, workshops, forums, and other forms of user or community outreach and engagement. </li><li>Assist in creating and maintaining databases for geospatial modeling and spatial analysis. </li><li>Assist in creating research-based designs represented in sketches, diagrams, and maps in collaboration with a project team. </li><li>Assist with creating maps, graphic reports, and websites. </li><li>Synthesize, write, and edit research reports and presentations, and support the dissemination of findings. </li><li>Present research findings and designs to clients, stakeholders, and community groups. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must be a degree-seeking graduate student (Masters or PhD) admitted to or registered in a graduate program at UH Manoa in architecture, urban planning, business administration, or related fields of study. </li><li>Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and maintain full-time enrollment. </li><li>Proficiency with MS Office (Work, Excel) or similar software. </li><li>Familiarity with spatial mapping and GIS. </li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. </li><li>Must have good written and oral communication skills. </li><li>Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends when required. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the community design field. </li><li>Ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. </li><li>Interest working directly with Native Hawaiian communities and organizations. </li><li>Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and similar programs. </li><li>Ability to participate in overnight travel to neighbor islands to conduct site visits and community engagement as part of the UHCDC team. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach the required documents by the closing date:</p> <ul> <li>Cover letter indicating how you satisfy the minimum and desirable qualifications; </li><li>Curriculum vitae; </li><li>Portfolio of work </li><li>Writing sample </li><li>The names and contact information (including email address) of three (3) professional references. </li><li>Official transcripts (copies accepted however, official transcripts will be required upon hire) </li></ul> <p>The application will be considered incomplete if materials are unreadable.
