<p>Job Description:</p> <p>CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts High School seeks a part-time Theater Artist Instructor to join our collaborative and interdisciplinary arts faculty. While the primary role will be classroom instruction, the ideal candidate will also play an essential role in our school productions - either as a director, music director, or in another key artistic support role (e.g., assistant directing, vocal coaching, props/scenic design) based on the candidate's expertise.</p> <p>We are looking for a passionate theater artist-educator who is flexible, student-centered, and excited to build meaningful learning experiences both in the classroom and on stage.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and deliver engaging curriculum and daily lessons for semester-long courses in one or more of the following areas: acting, auditioning, theater, costume design, musical theater, and/or vocal technique. </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. </li><li>Implement and assess lessons that emphasize creativity, technique, and critical thinking </li><li>Record attendance, maintain grades, and provide comments for interim and quarterly reports; regularly communicate with parents, social workers, and counselors regarding student progress. </li><li>Collaborate with other artist instructors and academic teachers on school-wide initiatives and interdisciplinary projects. </li><li>Create showcase or performance opportunities for student work throughout the year. </li><li>Participate in school community events including productions, concerts, exhibitions, recruitment activities, open houses, faculty meetings, and professional development </li><li>Direct or music direct at least one school production annually, or contribute to production support (e.g., scenic design, props, vocal coaching) depending on program needs and instructor skills. </li><li>Assist with non-instructional duties as needed (e.g., study halls, supervision, etc.). </li></ul> <p>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Extensive experience and/or formal training in theater performance, direction, or design. </li><li>Experience in one or more of the following secondary areas: music direction, theater vocal instruction, scenic/props design for theater, or costume design. </li><li>Working knowledge of a range of acting techniques (e.g., Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Viewpoints, etc.) </li><li>Creativity and adaptability to teach and create in resource-limited environments </li><li>Ability to lead or support productions with strong organization, collaboration, and student mentorship </li><li>Excellent communication skills and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered instruction </li><li>Ability to maintain accurate records and use digital tools for grading, attendance, and communication </li><li>Experience working with middle and/or high school-aged students (experience in a high school setting is a plus). </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum requirement: BA/BFA in related fields, plus relevant professional and/or teaching experience. </li><li>Eligibility for a Connecticut State Department of Education Adjunct Arts Instructor Permit required, requirements for permit eligibility which includes: </li></ul> <p>(1) hold a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited,</p> <p>(2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant's artistic specialty, and</p> <p>(3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, afterschool programs, group lessons, children's programs, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years' experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1, 2011 and for at least one year.</p> <p>Certification/License:</p> <ul> <li>Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation to school site. </li></ul> <p>Shift Hours:</p> <p>Monday through Friday, 10:15am - 2:15pm</p> <p>Location: 160 Huyshope Ave. Hartford, CT 06106</p> <p>To access the job description and salary range please click https://www.crec.org/careers/jobs.php</p> <p>JOB ID 13375 @ CREC: External Job Opportunities | Careers | Hartford, Connecticut</p>
