<ul> <li> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> </li><li> <p>Provides health care services applying radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures, and related techniques producing images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.</p> </li><li> <p>DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> </li><li> <p>Obtains ordering physician directive from the patient record, outpatient referral form or verbal order from requesting physician. In cases where more than 3OuCi of 1131 is used a prescription from a licensed user will be obtained and become a part of the patient's record. Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates exam information to patient or appropriate family member.</p> </li><li> <p>Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:</p> </li><li> <p>In agreement with state, federal and institutional policy, identifies, prepares, calculates/assays, documents and administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Understands the importance of the term ALARA and their role in achieving the lowest ALARA level possible as a nuclear medicine technologist. Recognizes life threatening conditions and initiates basic life support action when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Understands methods and is capable of performing venipuncture and observes universal precautions.</p> </li><li> <p>Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Observes patient respiration rates and ECG tracings from a distance of six to ten feet. Detects minute changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress (i.e. seizure, aspiration, choking struggling, or coughing)</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluates images for technical quality, establishing that proper patient identification is recorded of each radiograph.</p> </li><li> <p>Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs quality control testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum requirement:</p> </li><li> <p>Graduate of a committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Nuclear Medicine Program or equivalent; six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT), or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or equivalent.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred qualifications:</p> </li><li> <p>NA</p> </li><li> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly works near moving mechanical parts</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation</p> </li><li> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.</p> </li><li> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to walk and move about.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.</p> </li><li> <p>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.</p> </li></ul>
