<p>Union United Methodist Church</p> <p>Irmo, South Carolina 29063</p> <p>Full Time , On-Site</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Assistant Director of Youth and Recreation Ministries will play a vital role in dynamic youth and recreation ministries, partnering with the Director to cultivate a vibrant and welcoming community where youth and volunteers encounter the love of Jesus, experience authentic belonging, and are empowered to live out their faith.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in planning and leading weekly sessions of Sunday morning discipleship, Sunday evening fellowship, and Wednesday morning Bible Study. </li><li>Work alongside the Director to plan and run multiple retreats/trips throughout the year. </li><li>Manage essential administrative tasks, including the creation and scheduling of text messages, social media posts, and other communications, to ensure effective connection and organization within the ministry. </li><li>Recruit, train, and assist volunteer small group leaders and discipleship teachers to ensure all of the resources and support needed are provided for effective group time. </li><li>Attend students' extracurricular activities outside of church. </li><li>Assist in running Youth Basketball program at Union (scheduling practices, gym representative for games, communication with coaches, etc.). </li><li>Work with College-aged Ministries Team leader to ensure packages and cards are sent out to students. </li></ul> <p>Other Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Meet with the Director regularly for a time of planning and reflection. </li><li>Covenant with the Director to take one day each week for sabbath rest. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. </li><li>Ability to navigate a variety of environments, including ascending and descending stairs. </li><li>Willingness and availability to participate in evening and overnight ministry events. </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrates a deep and growing personal faith rooted in Wesleyan theology, consistently aligning words and actions. Actively engages in spiritual practices and seeks guidance from mentors. Articulates theological understanding clearly and consistently. </li><li>Interpersonal Skills: Builds authentic and meaningful connections with individuals across the ministry, proactively welcoming and integrating newcomers. Practices active listening with empathy, particularly with teenagers, and demonstrates genuine care for their well-being within appropriate boundaries. </li><li>Developing Leaders and Teams: Creates a feeling of belonging, pride, and joy; leads those involved in the ministry successfully through difficulties and challenges; shares successes, defined in terms of the whole team. Encourages others to discover and engage their giftedness and skills in service, supporting their development and actively engaging them in leadership. </li><li>Organization: Understands and implements effective short-term and long-term planning strategies. Communicates clearly and ensures that those involved are part of the planning and implementation processes to achieve shared goals. </li><li>Reflective Practice and Development: Proactively identifies growth areas and sets development goals, while also actively seeking and integrating feedback from supervisors and peers. Takes ownership of continuous learning and adapts skills to meet evolving ministry needs.
