<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>The Responsibilities of the Coastal Firewise & Prevention Field Coordinator:</p> <p>Under general supervision, serves as the primary contact for the delivery of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) programs in the coastal area, including conducting assessments, writing Community Wildfire Protection Plans, and recruiting/sustaining Firewise USA communities. Develops partnerships with local fire departments, community leaders and other natural resource agencies throughout the state to establish collaboration to meet program goals.</p> <ul> <li>Serves as the primary contact for the delivery of Wildland Urban Interface (QUI) programs in the coastal area, including conducting assessments, writing Community Wildfire Protection Plans, and recruiting/sustaining Firewise USA communities. Develops partnerships with local fire departments, community leaders and other natural resource agencies throughout the state to establish collaboration to meet program goals; provides programs and services related to WUI. Works with agency regional personnel to deliver technical assistance to local citizens, landowners, and local governments. Conduct educational presentations and workshops to communities, citizens and professionals to promote the Firewise and prevention programs. </li><li>Provides technical assistance to local governments. Disseminate information regarding wildfire risk, hazard mitigation, and community preparedness; submit monthly reports and maintain program documentation. </li><li>Coordinate on-the-ground efforts with SCFC field personnel for the implementation of wildfire prevention campaigns. Serves as instructor for WUI, wildfire prevention, and other fire training. </li><li>Provides assistance to regional personnel during wildfire suppression when the conditions warrant and conducting prescribed burns. Serves in public information, liaison, or logistics roles with local fire agencies when large fires occur. </li><li>Participate in activities and/or projects in support of agency's mission and perform other duties as required. </li></ul> <p>This position has optional work locations in Berkeley County, Dorchester County, Orangeburg County, and Colleton County.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree and one (1) year of relevant program experience or equivalency as approved by Human Resources. </li><li>Must possess a valid Driver's License. </li><li>Must obtain firefighter registration with the State Fire Marshal's Office. </li><li>Criminal background check and drug test required. </li><li>Must pass the agency's physical fitness test of walking two (2) miles in 30 minutes while carrying a 25 lb. pack or meet the agency's physical fitness program requirements. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree and/or 5 years of relevant work experience in wildfire prevention, wildfire suppression, wildfire behavior, natural resource protection or forest management. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments</p> <ul> <li>Position is in an office setting. Must be able to remain sedentary for long periods of time while working on a computer. Occasionally moves about the office to access file cabinets and other office machinery. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend and squat. </li><li>Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm with periodic night and weekend events. Some travel may be required. </li><li>Ability to work both indoors, outdoors, and changing environmental conditions. </li><li>Working knowledge of wildfire prevention, wildfire behavior, natural resource protection and natural resource management; knowledge of the Firewise Program. Working knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the area of employment. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to use computer programs to generate plans, assessments, maps and other documents pertaining to the program. </li><li>Experience in presenting to large groups and media personnel is preferred. Ability to act effectively in emergency or stressful situations. </li><li>This position is designated as safety sensitive and essential. Position requires employee to be subject to random, post incident/accident, reasonable suspicion, and rehabilitation monitoring and drug and alcohol testing consistent with SCFC Drug-Free Workplace policy. </li></ul>
