<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Department of Animal and Natural Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill seeks a talented and innovative animal scientist with an emphasis on Dairy Cattle Management and Animal Nutrition to join the faculty team as a Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG+) Fellow. PRODiG+ is designed with two primary goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates. This opportunity is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the visiting assistant professor level which includes additional professional development and training that will benefit individuals who are interested in obtaining a tenure track faculty position. The position will be eligible to convert to a tenure-track role open in the Department of Animal and Natural Sciences upon completion of the two-year fellowship through an internal promotion process.</p> <p>The Animal and Natural Sciences department enrolls over 500 students and offers hands-on coursework utilizing our working/teaching farm, which is just steps from the classroom. Our farm includes 125 milking cows and we are currently in process of a total redesign of our dairy facility. Offering both associate and bachelor's degree programs, SUNY Cobleskill seeks applicants committed to experiential learning who enjoy teaching Animal Nutrition and Dairy Cattle Management courses. The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduate students and is expected to bring specialized expertise in animal nutrition and dairy science to the instructional programs of the department. The incumbent will also work with college farm managers to ensure a seamless relationship between lecture and laboratory experiences. Faculty expectations include mentorship of student clubs/organizations/teams, supporting undergraduate research initiatives, and relationship building with industry and dairy producers in Upstate New York. Faculty are also expected to collaborate in the development and delivery of coursework, assist with curricular assessment and program reviews, and participate in service, scholarship, professional development, and revenue enhancement efforts.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>PhD in animal science, animal nutrition, ruminant nutrtition, dairy science or related field from an accredited University or DVM degree from an AVMA accredited institution. </li><li>At least 3 years professional experience in an agriculture-related field. </li><li>Documented experience with dairy cattle management and animal nutrition. </li><li>Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication; capacity to work successfully as a team member. </li><li>College teaching experience. </li><li>Ability to work in the USA without visa sponsorship. </li><li>Demonstrated personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and or/commitment to facilitating and enhancing DEI efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on DEI; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:</p> <p>Demonstrated excellence in college teaching</p> <ul> <li>Expertise in dairy cattle management and animal nutrition. </li><li>Interest in grant-writing and other external support opportunities. </li><li>Interest in applied research; particularly in mentoring undergraduate researchers. </li><li>Preference for Bilingual/multilingual candidates proficient in Spanish. </li><li>Commitment to experiential learning with the use of engaging pedagogies and diverse teaching modes. </li><li>Preference will be given to candidates who are from a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans. </li><li>Preference will be given to current SUNY students, alumni and/or Fellows. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>The salary for this position is $65,000 </li><li>This is a full-time, temporary, 12-month position. </li><li>This position will start August 2025. </li><li>This position offers full New York State benefits which are some of the most comprehensive in the country. </li><li>SUNY Cobleskill is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community for our students and employees.
