<p>This position is located in Geriatrics and Extended Care Service. The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, and creative approaches to the management of complex care. The ANM demonstrates aspiring leadership traits and has a strong desire for a nursing leadership path.</p> <p>The ANM's primary responsibilities include the day to day operations of the unit in the support of the unit's frontline clinical staff. The ANM collaborates and communicates with all members of the healthcare team and provides guidance to staff when necessary.</p> <p>The ANM is involved with frontline staff in education, competency, coaching/mentoring, professional development and other supportive roles. The ANM's focus is to promote optimal, safe patient care while ensuring appropriate patient flow and responsible resource3 management.</p> <p>Requirements of the ANM role is the necessary skills to identify and assist in providing oversight in the areas of Human Resources under the direction of the Nurse Manager (NM). The ANM is accountable for the 24/7 operations of the unit in the absence of the NM.</p> <p>The ANM will have specific responsibilities outlined in special care areas. The ANM assists in providing care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider (Illinois Board of Nursing).</p> <p>The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).</p> <p>The Nursing Professional Practice Model at the Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Hospital provides nurses with an organizing framework, based on the mission, vision, and values, that depicts how nurses practice, collaborate, communicate and develop professionally, while providing Veteran-centered care. Underlying the Profession Practice Model is Systems Theory which recognizes that Veterans, their families, and their community interact with nurses, the health care team, and the healthcare organization through a complex set of dynamic, interdependent, and interlinking subsystems.</p> <p>The Nursing Professional Practice Model is based on 7 components, empowering nurses to deliver Veteran-centered care in a supportive environment. These components are: Veteran-Centered Care, Interprofessional Collaboration, Evidence-Based Practice, Shared Decision-Making, Leadership, Professional Development, and Care Delivery System.</p> <p>Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital is a Level 1a major interdisciplinary teaching facility with servicelines serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients, with a comprehensive adult Emergency Department, and multiple community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC). There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical comorbidities.</p> <p>The Hines VA Hospital Blind Rehabilitation Center provides services in a residential setting. Home-Based Primary Care is provided in the veteran's home.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory</p> <p>Work Schedule: 11:30am to 8pm .
