<p>Summary</p> <p>The Aquatics Director oversees the safe and effective operation of aquatic facilities, ensuring compliance with Ellis & Associates (E&A) lifeguard standards and best practices. This leadership role is responsible for staff supervision, training, safety protocol implementation, program development and management, and facility maintenance to provide a safe and positive aquatic experience for all patrons.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.</p> <ul> <li>Manages daily operations of aquatic facilities, ensuring a safe environment in accordance with E&A protocols and local regulations. </li><li>Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises lifeguards and aquatic staff, maintaining all required certifications and training records. </li><li>Conducts regular in-service trainings, emergency drills, and performance/skill audits as mandated by E&A guidelines. </li><li>Develops and manages Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and daily facility inspection programs. </li><li>Oversees the implementation and enforcement of all safety rules, policies, and emergency action plans. </li><li>Develops, coordinates, and evaluates aquatics programming, including swim lessons, lap swim, water aerobics, senior and adaptive programs, parent-child programs, open swim, rentals, and memberships. </li><li>Assists with audits, reports, and operational planning as required. </li><li>Maintains facility cleanliness, chemical balances, and proper operations of all aquatic equipment. </li><li>Serves as the primary point of contact for emergency response and incident investigations. </li><li>Monitors and manages operating budgets, inventory, and supply procurement for aquatic operations. </li><li>Fosters a customer service-oriented team environment and resolves patron concerns professionally. </li><li>Ensures all staff comply with E&A standards and maintain up-to-date training and certifications. </li><li>Knowledge and upkeep of pump room operations is required. </li><li>Serve as liaison with the Town's Department of Health and local EMS for inspections and emergency preparedness </li><li>Performs similar or related work as required and as assigned by the Recreation Director or their designee. </li></ul> <p>Supervision Received and Exercised</p> <p>Reports to the Recreation Director and Deputy Director and works according to Ellis & Associates training and regulations, Town policies and Bylaws, and all applicable state, federal, and local regulations and standards. This position has direct supervision over and management of the aquatics staff. Work is carried out with moderate supervision, with guidance and direction provided by supervisory staff as needed. Duties require a high level of responsibility, attentiveness, and sound judgment in the execution of assigned functions, while adhering to established protocols and safety requirements.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education, Training and Experience</p> <p>High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of aquatic management experience or recreation facility management experience. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Knowledge of: Functions and upkeep of pump room operations, pool operations, aquatic related risk management, and emergency response procedures.</p> <p>Ability to: Remain alert and attentive for extended periods, remain calm and authoritative under pressure and during emergency situations, and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.</p> <p>Skill: Strong swimming skills and physical fitness, effective communication and team work skills, strong leadership and organizational skills.</p> <p>Required Licensing/Certification: Current Lifeguard License and current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED (or ability to obtain them) required. Current E&A Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred. CPO/AFO required, or ability to obtain prior to employment. Successful SORI and CORI is required.</p> <p>Job Environment</p> <ul> <li>A majority of work is performed in typical aquatic conditions, with frequent interruptions, where the noise level ranges from quiet to loud. Work may be performed at an indoor or outdoor pool setting with exposure to wet and humid conditions. </li><li>Daily exposure to the mechanical pump room. </li><li>Works weekday evenings and weekend days and evenings. </li><li>Has constant contact with the public. </li><li>Errors could result in personal injury/loss, delays or loss of service, monetary loss, and injuries to members of the public or to other employees, damages to buildings and/or equipment, and legal ramifications. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>This position is required to communicate and hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Occasionally this position is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. This position may frequently be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Position requires the ability to swim 200 yards continuously. Close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception are required.
