Explore the youth apprenticeship opportunity below and discover how you can start your journey into the rewarding world of healthcare today!</p> <p>An entry-level, supervised apprenticeship for youth (ages 16-18) to learn foundational clinical and administrative skills used in an outpatient medical clinic. The Youth Apprentice Medical Assistant supports patient care and clinic operations by assisting with rooming, vital signs, infection control, basic clinical support tasks, and electronic health record (EHR) documentation while completing required on-the-job training and classroom components.</p> <p>This role is a training position; the apprentice does not independently diagnose, provide medical advice, or make clinical decisions. All clinical tasks are performed under the direction and supervision of appropriately licensed/credentialed staff and in accordance with Community Health Systems, Inc. policies, applicable youth apprenticeship requirements, and state/federal regulations.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Patient Care Support (Under Supervision) </li><li>Prepares patients of all ages for examination and treatment; escorts patients to/from rooms as appropriate. </li><li>Obtains and documents patient history elements as directed (e.g., chief complaint; allergies; medication list; screening questions) and promptly escalates urgent concerns to supervising staff. </li><li>Measures and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight) and enters data into the EHR. </li><li>Assists with basic point-of-care processes as permitted and trained (e.g., specimen collection instructions; labeling; transport) under supervision. </li><li>Assists with immunizations/injections only when permitted by program requirements and clinic policy; only after competency validation; and only under required supervision. </li><li>Provides patient comfort measures within training and policy (e.g., positioning; obtaining blankets/water per clinic guidelines); alerts supervising staff to patient distress. </li><li>Rooming; Infection Prevention; Equipment </li><li>Prepares examination and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies. </li><li>Performs cleaning/disinfection of rooms and equipment per infection prevention protocols; uses appropriate PPE; follows standard precautions. </li><li>Assists with stocking and maintaining supplies and equipment, reports shortages or expired items. </li><li>Assists with instrument/equipment processing and sterilization steps as permitted by clinic policy and training; follows labeling and documentation requirements. </li><li>Clinical Team Support </li><li>Assists providers and clinical staff with clinic flow tasks as directed (e.g., locating equipment; printing handouts; preparing forms; setting up for procedures). </li><li>Assists with preparation for physicals and minor procedures by gathering supplies and preparing the room; does not perform invasive tasks unless specifically trained/approved and supervised per clinic policy. </li><li>Reviews upcoming schedules/charts as directed by supervising staff to identify anticipated needs (e.g., health maintenance gaps; labs; vaccines) and communicates findings to the care team. </li><li>Administrative; Scheduling; Documentation </li><li>Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA and all privacy/security requirements; accesses charts only for assigned work duties. </li><li>Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments and with coordinating referrals as directed. </li><li>Assists with prior authorizations and forms processing as directed (e.g., compiling required documentation; routing tasks; scanning/uploading), per clinic workflow. </li><li>Assists with maintaining clinic logs and documentation requirements as assigned (e.g., lab logs; vaccine documentation logs; other compliance logs) under supervision and per policy. </li><li>Quality; Safety; Training </li><li>Participates in all required safety programs and completes required trainings on time. </li><li>Participates in quality improvement and quality control activities as assigned (e.g., checklist use; audits; process improvement tasks). </li><li>Completes the MA competency checklist and demonstrates competency before progressing to additional tasks. </li><li>Follows all Community Health Systems, Inc. policies, procedures, regulatory, and legal requirements. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned, appropriate to apprenticeship level and training. </li><li></li></ul> <p>APPRENTICESHIP STRUCTURE; SUPERVISION; SCOPE</p> <ul> <li>The Youth Apprentice Medical Assistant is a training position with structured learning goals and progressive skill development. </li><li>Clinical tasks are performed under supervision consistent with clinic policy and apprenticeship requirements. </li><li>The apprentice will not independently perform tasks that require clinical judgment or that are outside the scope permitted for youth apprentices. </li><li>The apprentice must successfully complete competency validation prior to performing applicable clinical tasks. </li><li>The apprentice will receive periodic performance feedback and progress reviews according to clinic and apprenticeship program standards. </li></ul> <p>Skills/Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability and determination to efficiently carry out Community Health Systems, Inc. mission and values. </li><li>Ability to relate well to residents of low-income, multi-cultural neighborhoods; recognizes patients' right to participate in care planning and decision-making. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, and the public. </li><li>Ability to work in a busy clinic environment; maintain composure; use tact and professionalism in stressful situations. </li><li>Clear communication skills; ability to listen; follow instructions; ask for help appropriately. </li><li>Basic knowledge of medical terminology (or willingness to learn). </li><li>Ability to accurately document information and follow step-by-step procedures. </li><li>Ability to use computers and learn EHR workflows; ability to read and respond to emails in a timely manner. </li><li>Ability to identify and maintain confidential HIPAA information. </li><li>Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and as part of a team. </li></ul> <p>Education/Licensure/Certification</p> <ul> <li>Active student participant in the TLA Youth Apprenticeship program (Beloit). </li><li>BLS certification (or ability to obtain within an established onboarding timeframe per clinic policy). </li></ul> <p>Note: you must be currently enrolled in The Lincoln Academy to apply.</p>
