This role focuses on ensuring compliance with special education laws, promoting inclusive practices, and supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Leadership and Operations</p> <ul> <li>Assist the Principal in monitoring daily building operations. </li><li>Support the hiring process for certified and classified staff. </li><li>Supervise and evaluate certified and classified staff, ensuring high performance and professional growth. </li><li>Act as a liaison between building-level staff and district administration. </li></ul> <p>Student Services Supervision</p> <ul> <li>Oversee and coordinate personnel including Social Workers, Special Education Teachers, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, LEAs, Paraprofessionals, Itinerant Service Providers, Nurses, Attain Program Staff, Connections/Wellness Program Staff, Student Assistance Program Staff, English Learner/Bilingual Staff and the Special Education Department Chair. </li><li>Oversee teacher assistants, including evaluations, scheduling, and development of professional development and training. </li></ul> <p>Special Education and Support Staff Program Administration</p> <ul> <li>Serve as the lead for McKinney-Vento Act implementation, supporting homeless student services. </li><li>Oversee suicide assessments, threat assessments, and other critical mental health interventions. </li><li>Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Assistant Principal and department chairs to operate MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), with a focus on Tier 3 interventions. </li><li>Coordinate SEL-related efforts in conjunction with the Assistant Principal of Discipline. </li><li>Oversee specialized programs, including Foundations, Build, ASD, Multi-Needs, and the Attain Program (building specific). </li><li>Act as a liaison for Special Education discipline issues and serve as the disciplinarian for the restart room. </li><li>Collaborate on EL (English Learner) and Special Education programming initiatives. </li><li>Ensure compliance with testing accommodations for ACCESS, MAP, DLM, and SAT exams. </li><li>Attend IEP and MDR meetings as necessary to support the needs of students and families. </li><li>Work with department chairs to coordinate 8th grade placements. </li><li>Oversee homeschool programming. </li><li>?Oversee 504 students </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <p>Work collaboratively with the Special Education Department Chair to enhance and advance special education instructional practices.</p> <p>Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.</p> <p>Qualifications & Experience</p> <p>Minimum of 5 years of teaching or support staff experience in special education or related fields</p> <p>Prior experience in leadership roles in special education or student services</p> <p>Demonstrated success in implementing and managing special education programs</p> <p>Required Education & Certification</p> <p>Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or related field</p> <p>Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative Endorsement (Special Education endorsement preferred)</p> <p>Required Knowledge and Skills</p> <p>Thorough understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices</p> <p>Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and effective communication within the school community</p> <p>Proficiency in managing special education and related services</p> <p>Ability to oversee and implement SEL initiatives effectively</p> <p>Experience in handling student discipline in alignment with SEL and MTSS frameworks</p> <p>Strong organizational skills and ability to implement systems</p> <p>Excellent communication and collaboration skills</p> <p>Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusive practices</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Requires prolonged sitting and standing; must work in stressful and hectic environments; requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; occasional district-wide travel; requires physical and emotional endurance; must be able to work occasional prolonged and irregular hours; requires occasional evening supervision for athletic, academic, and activities.</p> <p>Compensation & Benefits</p> <p>The position includes a competitive compensation package (based on experience and education) with family health/dental insurance, basic life insurance coverage up to 100k, 90% BOE paid TRS, professional development opportunities, and more.</p>
