<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Newtown Public Schools</p> <p>Position Title: Science Teacher - Grades 7 or 8</p> <p>School of Vacancy: Newtown Middle School</p> <p>Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year</p> <p>Salary Range: Per Newtown Federation of Teachers Contract</p> <p>Responsibilities: Newtown Middle School is seeking two dynamic, student-centered Science Teachers for Grades 7 and 8. Successful candidates will join a collaborative six-person interdisciplinary team committed to academic excellence and fostering a positive, inclusive middle school culture. Responsibilities include the following:</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. </li><li>Deliver high-quality science instruction aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). </li><li>Contribute to interdisciplinary team goals and collaborate in shared planning, assessment development, and student support initiatives. </li><li>Maintain an organized, positive, and structured classroom environment that supports academic growth and student well-being. </li><li>Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. </li><li>Perform additional professional responsibilities consistent with district expectations. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:</p> <ul> <li>Current Connecticut Science Certification (K-8, 4-8, or 7-12) and a Strong knowledge of NGSS and best practices in science pedagogy. </li><li>Commitment to contributing to a high-performing district culture focused on both academic excellence and student growth. </li><li>Deep understanding of adolescent development and its impact on curriculum, instruction, and classroom culture. </li><li>Technology expertise to enhance student understanding and engagement. </li><li>Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous classroom setting and ability to differentiate instruction including the use of small group instruction strategically. </li><li>Effective classroom management skills that promote high expectations and positive relationships. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills. </li></ul> <p>The Newtown Public School District values the benefits that a diverse workforce brings to our students and community.
