This position is responsible for the daily management and maintenance of the museum's current Mimsy XG database. As a member of the collections team, they work to use the collections management database to improve processes, automate workflows, and increase efficiency for users. They also promote and support expanded use of the database for a wider array of museum projects. This position will play a vital role in our promise to share more of our collections than ever before - a key pillar of our mission and the We Are St. Louis campaign. The Administrator will help establish and enforce data standards and document data entry procedures in accordance with best practices in collections management and database administration. The Administrator will collaborate with staff on projects requiring electronic access to collection information and oversee database security.</p> <p>The Collections Management Database Administrator will also serve as the project leader for the museum's migration from Mimsy XG to Axiell Collections. They will work with Axiell in all aspects of migration and act as team lead for data clean up, mapping, and ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Upon launch, the Collections Management Database Administrator will provide training and technical support to database users, including creating tutorial documents and troubleshooting database issues. The Administrator will manage a portfolio of database reports and develop new reports as needed.</p> <p>This is a temporary full-time position slated for 3 years.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee management and maintenance of the museum's collections management database </li><li>Provide training and technical support to database users, including creating tutorial documents, and troubleshooting database issues </li><li>Establish data standards and document data entry procedures in accordance with best practices in collections management </li><li>Manage portfolio of reports and develop new reports as needed </li><li>Develop database functions to improve processes, automate workflows, and increase efficiency for users. Promote and support expanded use of the database for a wider array of museum projects. </li><li>Remain current of new trends and developments in collection database software as well as reporting software </li><li>Act as project leader for migration from Mimsy XG to Axiell Collections </li><li>Serve as representative to the museum's technology team working with the IT department, Web Lab, and Piction DAMS administrator to communicate updates and issues </li><li>Respond to inquiries and provide data on collections statistics </li><li>All other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Library Information, Museum Studies or a related field; Masters Degree preferred </li><li>Minimum 3 years of Collections Management Database experience in a Museum or Library setting </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated understanding of metadata in a museum collections environment </li><li>History of working in complex database applications at the administrator level, including application configuration </li><li>Experience creating and maintaining database reports and familiarity with best practices in documenting report programming </li><li>Understanding of best practices in collections management and registration procedures </li><li>Extremely high level of accuracy and attention to detail; commitment to efficiency and effectiveness of systems and schedules </li><li>Ability to efficiently and effectively work on a variety of projects concurrently, with attention to the goals and priorities of the department and the institution </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with colleagues and volunteers, and effectively represent MHS to outside professionals </li><li>Experience coordinating large, multi-departmental projects - The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of organizing tasks, timelines, and communications among diverse teams to achieve shared goals </li><li>Solid written and oral communication skills </li><li>Experience with Mimsy XG or other Axiell products, Crystal Reports, and SQL a plus </li></ul> <p>Deadline to Apply: Open until filled.</p> <p>Please upload cover letter and resume when applying.</p> <ul> <li>External job boards: Please click this link, to apply. </li></ul> <p>An Equal Opportunity</p> <p>Services Provided On A Non-Discriminatory Basis</p>
