<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The Office of Counseling Services at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants to apply for a full-time, grant-funded, exempt, position. The position will report to the Director of the University Counseling Center.</p> <p>The Mental Health Counselor provides culturally competent intake assessments, triage appointments, crisis intervention, case management, solution-focused individual therapy, group therapy and conflict resolution strategies.</p> <p>Benefits: UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. Some evening and weekend hours </li></ul> <p>required as needed.</p> <ul> <li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work, or related field with </li></ul> <p>a clinical track.</p> <ul> <li>One-year post-graduate clinical experience. </li><li>Experience working with transitional age adults. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively in a fast- </li></ul> <p>paced environment.</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make ethical, clinically </li></ul> <p>informed decisions.</p> <ul> <li>Capacity to handle stressful or complex clinical situations with professionalism </li></ul> <p>and compassion.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community </li></ul> <p>partners.</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. </li><li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Experience providing counseling services to college-aged adults in a college or </li></ul> <p>university counseling center.</p> <ul> <li>Experience in clinical supervision of trainees or early-career professionals. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with clients presenting with severe emotional </li></ul> <p>disturbances</p> <p>Licenses/ Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Maryland license or license eligible within the state within six (6) months of </li></ul> <p>employment.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Education: Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field with a clinical focus.</p> <p>Experience: One year of post-graduate clinical experience.</p> <p>Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:</p> <p>Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.</p> <p>Ability to exercise sound judgment and make ethical, clinically informed decisions.</p> <p>Skill in organizing and time management.</p> <p>Skill in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.</p> <p>Additional Job Details</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Copy of current Maryland board license </li><li>Documentation of board eligibility or certification </li><li>Reference check contact related to clinical work must be included in list of references. </li></ul> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and a list of names of three current professional references (current or past supervisor) including e-mail address, and telephone number (current supervisor will not be contacted without the candidate's prior consent).
