<p>Employment Type:</p> <p>Full time</p> <p>Shift:</p> <p>12 Hour Evening Shift</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>POSITION PURPOSE</p> <p>Serves as a critical liaison between the Operating Room, PACU, and other departments, coordinating patient care, scheduling, and ensuring smooth operations for a specific surgical service line. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders across the healthcare system. Provides perioperative patient care according to established guidelines while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and role model. This position serves diverse populations from infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult to geriatric patients.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ol> <li>Liaison & Coordination </li></ol> <ul> <li>Serves as the primary point of contact between the OR, PACU, service lines, medical providers, and other departments </li><li>Facilitates seamless communication and collaboration among all stakeholders </li><li>Addresses and resolves interdepartmental issues related to the service line </li><li>Coordinates multidisciplinary meetings and follows up on action items </li><li>Prepares and runs reports related to service line volume and other metrics as needed </li><li>Analyzes performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Clinical Leadership </li></ol> <ul> <li>Coordinates all cases in an efficient manner, specifically those involving specialized technologies, equipment, or supplies related to service line operations </li><li>Maintains comprehensive knowledge of equipment setup and function </li><li>Stays current on best practices and procedures in perioperative services </li><li>Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and quality enhancement projects </li><li>Initiates and directs room cleanup and turnover to maximize efficiency </li><li>Initiates and maintains patient/family education and safety throughout the perioperative experience </li><li>Provides a safe environment for patients and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and controlling physical and psychological aspects of the environment </li><li>Collects and analyzes data to develop comprehensive nursing diagnoses and care plans </li><li>Serves as a resource and role model in clinical practice for staff members </li><li>Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards </li><li>Maintains required documentation for regulatory purposes </li><li>Participates in safety initiatives and promotes a culture of safety </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Operational Leadership </li></ol> <ul> <li>Works effectively with surgeons, perioperative leadership, and multidisciplinary team members </li><li>Facilitates clear communication among all stakeholders </li><li>Builds and maintains positive working relationships across departments </li><li>Tracks and trends schedule patterns to identify potential issues and resolves them promptly </li><li>Utilizes scheduling software for case requests and block releases </li><li>Optimizes OR utilization through effective schedule management </li><li>Coordinates with surgeons and their offices to ensure accurate scheduling </li><li>Manages add-on cases and schedule changes with minimal disruption </li><li>Represents the service line in cross-functional meetings </li><li>Participates in interviewing potential team members as needed </li><li>Leads daily department huddles to enhance communication and address immediate concerns </li><li>Identifies inefficiencies and proposes practical solutions </li><li>Supports data-driven decision making within the service line </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>Technical Responsibilities </li></ol> <ul> <li>Facilitates updates and changes on surgeon preference cards to ensure accuracy </li><li>Ensures that specialized equipment and supplies are available for assigned cases </li><li>Manages supplies related to service line operations </li><li>Maintains proficiency with electronic medical records and scheduling systems </li><li>Supports special projects and initiatives as directed by leadership </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior. </li></ol> <p>Mission Statement: We, MercyOne Trinity Health, serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our communities.</p> <p>Core Values:</p> <ul> <li>Reverence: We honor the sacredness and dignity of every person. </li><li>Commitment to Those who are Poor: We stand with and serve those who are poor, especially those most vulnerable. </li><li>Safety: We embrace a culture that prevents harm and nurtures a healing, safe environment for all. </li><li>Justice: We foster right relationships to promote the common good, including sustainability of Earth. </li><li>Stewardship: We honor our heritage and hold ourselves accountable for the human, financial and natural resources entrusted to our care. </li><li>Integrity: We are faithful to those we say we are. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ol> <li> <p>Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.</p> </li><li> <p>Two years' experience as an operating room nurse required.</p> </li><li> <p>Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association.</p> </li><li> <p>Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to read, write and speak English language.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong interpersonal skills with staff, management and physicians required.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors, and perform job functions satisfactorily despite the stress of a hospital work environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to function independently when appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Adaptability to situations involving precise attainment of set limits and standards.</p> </li></ol> <p>PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ol> <li>PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67-100% of workday, Frequent = 34-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday) </li></ol> <ul> <li>CONSTANT </li></ul> <p>o Talking and Hearing: While exchanging information through oral communication, both by phone and in person.</p> <p>o Standing: While starting IVs.</p> <p>o Walking: Usually for short distances at normal rate of speed.</p> <p>o Grasping and Fingering: While starting IVs.</p> <ul> <li>FREQUENT </li></ul> <p>o Stooping, reaching, and lifting: While starting IVs, assembling supplies, etc.</p> <ul> <li>OCCASIONAL </li></ul> <p>o Lifting: While moving supplies or while assisting in patient care.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: </li></ol> <ul> <li>If a patient is unable to function independently, a mechanical/assistive device and/or additional personnel must be utilized. If an object requires lifting > 50 lbs., additional equipment/personnel must also be utilized. </li><li>Heavy work: Exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull (force to move frequently, and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly, to move patient and/or objects. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Ability to read and prepare written documentation. </li><li>Ability to identify IV solutions, medications, etc. </li><li>Ability to utilize computer terminal. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>EQUIPMENT/TOOLS: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area. </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>WORKING CONDITIONS: </li></ol> <ul> <li>The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. </li><li>Colleagues in this job classification have been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, therefore, are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with all its specifications for preventing contact with the above materials. </li></ul> <ol start="6"> <li>Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures. </li></ol> <p>Our Commitment</p> <p>Rooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
