<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>An employee in this position oversees the daily operation of the scales for theLandfill facility for Harnett County. This includes weighing trucks, waste screening, and processing payments.</p> <p>Hiring: $19.4509 hourly pay rate</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:</p> <ul> <li>Advises users on proper access, location, and use of solid waste facility. </li><li>Weighs vehicles with trash; inspects content; classified materials; makes sure prohibited materials are excluded; documents; and calculates charges. </li><li>Establishes and maintains customer accounts; enters charges to customer accounts. </li><li>Processes payment as cash, check, or credit card before dumping; prepares money for bank deposit. </li><li>Answers the telephone. </li><li>Maintains various records and reports; creates and updates database with truck numbers for various customers. </li><li>Enforces solid waste rules. </li><li>Maintains cleanliness of scale house; trains relief weighmasters. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent; </li><li>One (1) year of work experience preferably with some experience in cashiering, bookkeeping, recordkeeping, computer data entry, and public contact; </li><li>Or equivalent education and/or experience. </li><li>Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. </li><li>Completion of Waste Screening Training. </li><li>Possession of Certification by the Solid Waste Association of North America for Landfill Operations as a Specialist is desired. </li><li>Possession of Certification by the Solid Waste Association of North America for Transfer Station Operations as a Specialist desired. </li><li>Possession of a NC Weigh Master License is desired. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of rules and policies related to the scales and landfill activities. </li><li>Knowledge of money handling duties. </li><li>Skill in communicating with tact and courteous with the public. </li><li>Skill in operating the scales. </li><li>Ability to work independently. </li></ul> <p>SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Must be able to perform sedentary work and occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of grasping, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, having manual dexterity, reaching, performing repetitive motion, and shouting to be heard above ambient noise. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to identify materials, process account information, use a computer, and use equipment.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat, cold, and noise. Work at the scales also involves exposure to physical conditions such as moving mechanical parts; atmospheric conditions such as odors and dust; and skin exposure to oils. Work may be subject to OSHA's bloodborne pathogen standards.</p>
