We focus on the use of green technologies and environmentally conscious support systems to minimize our carbon footprint.</p> <p>Role Summary:</p> <p>The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing the company's overall safety strategy, policies, and programs. The CSO works closely with the President and the executive team to create and uphold the safety culture throughout the organization, and ensures that the organization complies with local, national, and international safety regulations. This executive role involves managing risk, preventing accidents, and promoting health and safety standards in all operational areas, including employee safety, environmental health, and public safety. The role has responsibility for all five current operating locations as well as any future expansions that may occur as we continue to grow the company.</p> <p>The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable leading the PI safety culture and ensuring that PI team members treat safe operations as the key value in all that they do. The candidate must be able to lead others as well as influence both leaders and shop floor personnel in the pursuit of a zero incident culture; which requires building credibility on the production floor and in meetings.</p> <p>Accountable for:</p> <p>Safety Strategy and Leadership:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate safety strategy aligned with organizational goals. </li><li>Lead and manage the safety department, including teams responsible for safety compliance, training, risk assessments, and audits. </li><li>Promote and hold people accountable to a culture of safety by setting high standards and ensuring that safety policies are embedded in the company's day-to-day operations. </li></ul> <p>Compliance and Risk Management:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, and other relevant standards). </li><li>Identify potential safety risks and hazards and implement risk management and mitigation strategies. </li><li>Manage EPS and DNR compliance programs (e.g. air emissions, hazardous waste) </li><li>Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols. </li></ul> <p>Incident Response and Investigation:</p> <ul> <li>Lead investigations into any accidents, injuries, or safety incidents, determining root causes, and ensuring corrective actions are taken. </li><li>Develop and oversee emergency response plans for potential crises such as fire, natural disasters, hazardous material spills, and other emergencies. </li><li>Prepare and submit incident reports and recommendations for prevention to executive leadership and relevant authorities. </li><li>Involvement for our worker's compensation program - case management and return to work program. </li></ul> <p>Training and Development:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement safety training programs to educate employees at all levels on safety protocols and regulatory requirements. </li><li>Ensure that employees are aware of and comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. </li><li>Lead continuous improvement initiatives and stay current on best practices in workplace safety. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration and Communication:</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with operations, HR, legal, and other departments to ensure safety policies and procedures are integrated across the organization. </li><li>Serve as the point of contact for external safety agencies, regulators, and stakeholders. </li><li>Report regularly to senior leadership and the board on safety performance, goals, and future strategies. </li></ul> <p>Data and Metrics:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of safety performance metrics, including injury rates, near-miss incidents, and hazard reports. </li><li>Use data-driven insights to refine safety programs, improve processes, and reduce incident rates. </li><li>Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety compliance, training effectiveness, and risk reduction. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety Related field. </li><li>Ten or more years of experience as a safety professional in a manufacturing setting with extensive experience understanding equipment, processes, and the team members involved with each of these. </li><li>Five or more years directly managing others. </li><li>Experience setting the overall strategy for safety or a key safety initiative within a manufacturing facility. </li><li>Ability to travel up to 25% of the time. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent credentials are preferred. </li><li>Knowledge of Human and Operational Performance as well as implementing or strengthening this philosophy. </li><li>Understanding of ISO 45001 standard, preferably experience at an organization with this certification. </li><li>Experience managing safety at non-US facilities. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Prolonged periods of seated work </li><li>Prolonged periods of standing work </li><li>Ability to frequently lift 15-25 lbs. </li><li>Occasional repetitious tasks with upper extremities </li><li>Frequent keyboard use/data entry </li><li>Attention to detail </li><li>Ability to correctly wear and use personal protective equipment </li></ul> <p>Plastic Ingenuity is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
