<p>Job Posting</p> <p>Important Recruitment Information for this vacancy</p> <p>Job Posting closes: Extended to January 2, 2026</p> <p>Required documents uploaded by: January 5, 2026</p> <p>Agency Information:</p> <p>The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is an executive branch agency in charge of operating and regulating the use of state parks, state lakes, recreational grounds, wildlife areas and sanctuaries, fish hatcheries, natural areas, historic sites and other lands, waters, and facilities for the promotion of public health, safety, and for the use and pleasure of visitors. The agency is also charged with the development and conservation of wildlife and the natural resources within the state. The agency oversees 29 state parks, 500 miles of trails, approximately 460,301 acres of leased or owned public lands, management of four hatcheries, and four nature centers.</p> <p>To meet our mission, projects, and goals, KDWP employs approximately 466 full time employees and up to 350 temporary employees, throughout the state, with diverse and varying skillsets. The largest agency office is the Operations Offices in Pratt, Kansas. The Office of the Secretary is maintained in Topeka, Kansas. There are four Regional Offices located in Topeka, Wichita, Hays, and Dodge City; six District Offices in Kansas City, Chanute, Colby, Fort Scott, Garden City, and Mound City; and a Research Office located in Emporia, Kansas. Various wildlife, public land, and parks offices are located across the state.</p> <p>The agency is primarily funded through license fees, grants and federal funds that are provided through the Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson Acts.</p> <p>About the Position</p> <p>Who can apply: Anyone</p> <p>Classified/Unclassified Service: Unclassified</p> <p>Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-time</p> <p>Regular/Temporary: Regular</p> <p>Eligible to Receive Benefits: Yes</p> <p>Veterans' Preference Eligible: Yes</p> <p>Search Keywords: Facilities, Maintenance, Parks, Perry, Jefferson</p> <p>Compensation: $19.65/hour - $22.03/hour</p> <ul> <li>Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. </li></ul> <p>Employment Benefits</p> <p>Immediate comprehensive medical, mental, dental, vision, and additional coverage</p> <p>Sick & Vacation leave</p> <p>Work-Life Balance programs: parental leave, military leave, jury leave, funeral leave</p> <p>Paid State Holidays (designated by the Governor annually)</p> <p>Fitness Centers in select locations</p> <p>Employee discounts with the STAR Program</p> <p>Retirement and deferred compensation programs</p> <p>Visit the Employee Benefits page for more information…</p> <p>Position Summary & Responsibilities</p> <p>Position Summary: This unclassified, full-time position is located at Perry State Park, Parks Division; and is directly supervised by Kevin Claycamp, Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Work includes performing advanced, skilled work and providing technical expertise and experience in a wide variety of trades, skills and advanced operations: planning (or assisting in the planning) of maintenance and construction projects, estimating material and manpower needed for projects. </li><li>Installing and repairing electrical systems and equipment, microprocessor HVAC controls and systems, programmable switches, telecommunications system components, intrusion and fire alarm systems, solar-powered lights, specialty devices, water and sewer lines, anti-siphon valves and backflow preventers, showers, lavatories, toilets. </li><li>Forming, estimating, ordering, and finishing concrete for buildings, sidewalks, shelters, cabins, boat ramps, playgrounds, trails, and various other facilities to meet special needs, visitor safety standards, and ADA requirements. </li><li>Constructing, maintaining, and painting buildings, shelters, picnic tables, enclosed BBQ grills, and signs. </li><li>Operating, repairing, and maintaining a park-wide water distribution system; serves as lead worker with supervising, directing, scheduling, and evaluating the work of subordinate maintenance personnel, including a medium-sized seasonal workforce as well as federal assistant program workers (Experience Works), and other volunteer resources (community service). </li><li>Operating and maintaining road grading equipment, tractors, mowers, backhoes, various power tools, and shop equipment, including welders and torches. </li><li>Operating equipment to spray insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemical applications. </li><li>Assisting the public, answering inquiries, knowledge of agency permits and licenses, as well as selling permits and licenses. Maintaining and submitting records and monthly reports, including vehicle use, bulk fuel, propane, water use, traffic counts, visitor use data, inventory verification, and other related items. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.</p> <p>Licensing & Certification: Must possess & maintain a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a background check required.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required. Three years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Extensive first-hand work experience for institutional and recreational facility upkeep and maintenance, and understand and demonstrate basic noxious weed control processes.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications: Prefer candidates who possess a working knowledge of Park maintenance to include intermediate experience in electrical, construction, and plumbing trades.</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements: May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License and would be required to pass a State of Kansas Controlled Substance Test for Commercial Drivers prior to appointment. If so, the selected candidate would be subject to random testing for alcohol and controlled substances following employment.
