The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.</p> <p>Why We Do This Work:</p> <p>The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.</p> <p>What We Need:</p> <p>The District Translator is directly responsible to the Director of EL department and provides oral/written translation for Waukegan Public Schools in order to ensure the district documents are translated appropriately into either English or Spanish and promote a positive working relationship between and among the school district staff and community by fostering a climate conductive to open communication and productive work.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All Functions are under the Director of the EL Director</p> <ul> <li>Communicate proficiently in English and Spanish </li><li>Support the English Learners Programs, and Immigrant Programs with oral and written translations in English and Spanish. </li><li>Receive, translate, and submit English/Spanish documents to District departments, and principals. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of all Bilingual/ESL and Immigrant translations that are received and submitted to appropriate parties. </li><li>Attend training that may be available for translator to improve translation skills. </li><li>Be available to interpret at regularly scheduled Board of Education and Committee Meetings for Spanish speaking parents and community members 30 minutes prior to the start time until services are no longer required. </li><li>Prepare transmitter and receivers for interpretation, sign out and check in the receivers to requesting community members. </li><li>Ensure that the availability of interpretation services are made known to parents and community members. </li><li>Arrange for substitute coverage on dates not available. </li><li>Keep the Director of EL informed regarding the status on all projects undertaken and of requests of directives received internally or externally. </li><li>Evaluate the translation test administered by Human Resources to language liaison applicants. </li><li>Maintain strong communication and positive relationship with multiple departments. </li><li>Is responsible for translation of IEP documents and interpretation at IEP meetings. </li><li>Maintain equipment and inventory. </li><li>Perform other such duties as may be assigned by the EL Director. </li></ul> <p>Note: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. They are not intended as an exhaustive list of job duties, responsibilities, and requirements.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors Degree </li><li>Preferred translation certificate or equivalent </li><li>Excellent interpersonal communication, and listening skills. </li><li>Ability to successfully work in a collaborative environment with administrators, teachers, and parents. </li><li>High level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic; </li><li>Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel. </li><li>Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred. </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment: Grant funded year-to-year</p> <p>Compensation: A competitive salary and benefits packaged offered.</p> <p>Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent in-district travel.
