The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.</p> <p>Why We Do This Work:</p> <p>The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can, and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.</p> <p>What We Need:</p> <p>The Coordinator of PreK and Elementary Math will be the individual who will plan, organize, and implement a PreK-5 math program district-wide. The coordinator must provide strong instructional leadership and be able to successfully promote effective classroom teaching practices in the area of math instruction. This individual also must possess experience and knowledge in implementing balanced literacy within a school system. In addition, he or she must have strong communication and collaboration skills in order to successfully lead the implementation of a quality math program in our district.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate the review, development, and revision of the district PreK-Elementary math programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including curriculum guides and scope and sequence documents. </li><li>Support the schools and teachers in the implementation of a common language of math pedagogy for all educators in the district. </li><li>Lead vertical and horizontal teams of teachers through the development of a scope and sequence. </li><li>Responsible for facilitating continuous improvement in classroom math instruction by providing instructional support to teachers in the areas of lesson design, aligning instruction with district curriculum, and developing effective classroom instruction and assessment. </li><li>Create well-designed professional learning experiences that engage learners, link current information to previous knowledge or experiences in the area of math. </li><li>Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness related to math instruction. </li><li>Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in related to the area of math. </li><li>Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in math. </li><li>Provide demonstration lessons in curriculum and teaching techniques for classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators. </li><li>Provide leadership in implementing best practices and instructional strategies in the area of math, which meet the needs of diverse learners. </li><li>Coordinate curriculum/program implementation with teachers, administrators, central office personnel, and support staff. </li><li>Observe classrooms around the district to assure that curriculum and programs related to math are being implemented with fidelity and to identify what additional support is needed. </li><li>Research and identify best practices in the area of PreK an elementary math instruction. </li><li>Verify vertical alignment of curriculum and identify gaps/redundancies, if any. </li><li>Pursue outside funding and grant opportunities. </li><li>Provide staff members with appropriate continuous professional development. </li><li>Collect, maintain, and report relevant data as required throughout the year. </li><li>Provide leadership and effective communication with all stakeholders. </li><li>Attend regular staff meetings and conduct regular staff meetings. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of PreK and Elementary Education. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically.</p> </li><li> <p>Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility.</p> </li><li> <p>Passion to embrace social and emotional standards and practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Hold or be eligible for the required Illinois State Professional Educators License with a General Administrative Endorsement.</p> </li><li> <p>A minimum of three (3) years of successful elementary school teaching experience</p> </li><li> <p>Preference will be given to those who demonstrate evidence of successful teaching and academic achievement using in the area of math.</p> </li><li> <p>Be able to successfully work in a collaborative environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Able to mediate and resolve conflicts.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to interact with teachers, parents, outside agencies, and central services staff.</p> </li></ul> <p>Note: The above statements are intended to describe the essential functions and related requirements of persons assigned to this job.
