<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.</p> <p>This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file until September 30, 2026.</p> <p>The incumbent provides anesthesia services for a variety of surgical cases including, but not limited to the following: major and minor vascular, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, podiatry, plastics, cardiac cases (bring backs on call) and neurosurgical cases in the operating room (OR), outside OR anesthetizing locations, intensive care units, wards, and off-site anesthetizing locations if needed. The incumbent must be able to perform rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; ability to assist with lifting of patients; have adequate hearing (hearing aid permitted); possess emotional/mental stability; and have the ability to perform all anesthesia procedures including, but not limited to, basic regional blocks & neuroaxial procedures, arterial-line placement, central-line placement, PA catheter placement, and endotracheal intubation. When working as an intensivist, the incumbent evaluates, treats, and coordinates care of patients with critical illnesses in the intensive care units, primarily within the</p> <p>surgical intensive care unit (SICU), and other designated locations.</p> <p>The incumbent will provide general anesthesia, regional anesthesia and monitored anesthetic care for a variety of procedures at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland VA (Atlanta VA Healthcare System) and other designated locations by the Anesthesiology Department associated with the Joseph Maxwell Cleland VA. Other duties of the incumbent will be the preoperative evaluation of patients, postoperative management of the patients in recovery, the screening of acute pain consultations, and out of OR airway management as required during regular duty hours and while on-call. The incumbent will provide clinical supervision of nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) and participation in clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and other providers. The incumbent may also clinically supervise other staff within the Anesthesiology Department, take on administrative responsibilities associated with the Anesthesiology Department, and provide regular updates and submit evaluations of staff being supervised by the incumbent to the Chief of Perioperative Services - Anesthesiology (the incumbent's first-line supervisor). When the incumbent is working as an intensivist, supervision has been delegated by the Chief of Perioperative Services -Anesthesiology to the Chief of Critical Care - Anesthesiology.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
