Our students achieve exceptional success at the post-secondary level, reflecting the strong academic foundation and character development they gain during their time at Mystic Valley.</p> <p>Located just outside of Boston, often referred to as the "Hub of the Universe", MVRCS benefits from proximity to world-renowned colleges, universities, and cultural institutions that enrich both teaching and learning.</p> <p>Position Overview: Art Teacher</p> <p>The Art Teacher will introduce students to the history of art while fostering creativity and self-expression through structured, skill-based instruction. Lessons are aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence and thoughtfully integrated with content from other academic subjects.</p> <p>This role includes planning, delivering, and assessing instruction; collaborating with colleagues; communicating with parents; and continuously refining instructional practices to support student growth.</p> <p>As MVRCS does not have a dedicated art room, the ideal candidate will be highly organized and adaptable, managing materials efficiently across multiple classroom spaces located near the grade levels they serve.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Deliver engaging, content-rich art instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum </li><li>Foster a structured, respectful classroom environment that promotes creativity and accountability </li><li>Plan lessons, assess student work, and adjust instruction to support student outcomes </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with families </li><li>Maintain organized materials and ensure efficient transitions between classes </li><li>Support students during transitions to ensure a smooth and orderly learning environment </li><li>Serve as the primary manager of classroom behavior during art instruction, in coordination with instructional assistants </li><li>Communicate any behavioral concerns or actions with homeroom teachers </li></ul> <p>Professional Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate strong classroom presence and clear, effective communication </li><li>Present content in an accessible, engaging, and age-appropriate manner </li><li>Maintain punctuality and professionalism in all aspects of the role </li><li>Collaborate respectfully with colleagues and share classroom spaces responsibly </li><li>Uphold the school's behavior management approach, including the 4:1 positive reinforcement ratio </li><li>Maintain accurate and up-to-date behavior tracking systems (e.g., TAT/behavior charts) </li><li>Clearly communicate instructional practices-such as group work, discussion, and interactive activities-which may involve higher levels of student engagement and noise </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Provide extra help and academic support to students as needed </li><li>Assist with exam proctoring </li><li>Support school operations, including lunch, recess, or class coverage as needed </li><li>Participate in and support co-curricular programs and school initiatives </li></ul>
