Harbor Health also operates two Programs for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly in Mattapan and Brockton, and a Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. To help further the mission of Harbor, we are looking for a talented Medical Assistant to join our team at the Daniel Driscoll Neponset Health Center in Dorchester.</p> <p>Harbor Health offers an excellent, comprehensive benefits package including Health, , Dental, Vision, Life, & Disability insurance, 403b Savings Plan, Generous Paid Time Off plus 11 additional Holidays and much more!</p> <p>Role:</p> <p>The Medical Assistant assists the providers by preparing patients to be seen by collecting and recording necessary data for health, weight, medication and allergies, performs simple lab tests such as urine dipstick, takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, performs vision testing, assists providers with simple procedures and other related duties.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Prepares patients for Provider visit/examinations by obtaining and documenting patient's vital signs which include: Height, weight, Blood Pressure, Pulse, Temperature, Respirations, Oxygen Saturation, Pain assessment, Vision screening when required by provider. </li><li>Obtains a medical history by asking patients questions about their new/changes to medical conditions, medication review, allergy review and documents appropriately in EMR. </li><li>Performs and documents screening assessments in EMR such as Tobacco screening, HSQ (Depression Screening), Domestic Violence Screening. </li><li>Performs and documents all Point of Care CLIA Waived Lab Testing in lab area. Tests included Glycohemoglobin A1C, Fingerstick Glucose, Urine Dipstick, Rapid Strep, Rapid Flu, Urine Drug Screen </li><li>Performs necessary daily Quality Control Testing on designated Point of Care tests. </li><li>Assists patient with Portal Enrollment. </li><li>Answers patient portal messages as needed. </li><li>Assists the providers with simple non-nursing procedures and acts as a chaperone when necessary. </li><li>Under the direction of a provider, assists with routine patient nursing and non-nursing follow-up </li><li>Assists in the orientation, evaluation and training of new staff to the department </li><li>Stocks exam rooms as needed using processes of central supply inventory and transfers to appropriate exam room. </li><li>Disinfects patient touching equipment after every patient use, cleans and disinfects each exam room thoroughly after each clinic and documents completion. </li><li>Replaces Sharps Containers in each exam room when ¾ full with a new sharps container and transports full sharps container to designated Bio-Hazard area. </li><li>Routinely stocks and cleans rooms, orders necessary supplies as needed and in coordination with nursing leadership. </li><li>Assures continuity of patient care by tracking and obtaining outstanding lab and test results for all patient visits. </li><li>Performs EKG's as ordered by providers. </li><li>Performs additional tasks such as Telederm and RetinaVue processes as ordered by providers. </li><li>Assists providers during sessions by copying and faxing patient care documents as assigned by provider or nurse. </li><li>Answers department telephone line and task box, if appropriate. </li><li>Assists quality improvement efforts within the department as assigned. </li><li>Collaborates with other department staff to ensure patient access and continuity of care. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma and/or GED </li><li>Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited program or verification of allowed substitution as appropriate. </li><li>Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) Certification </li><li>Bilingual; English/Spanish, English/Vietnamese, English/Portuguese preferred </li><li>Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel and Outlook & Teams). </li><li>Experience using EMR (EPIC/OCHIN) highly desired. </li></ul> <p>Substitutions for Medical Assistant Certification:</p> <ul> <li>Successful completion of 1 year of an accredited Nursing Degree Program (must present official transcript.) </li><li>2 years of college level health care related science courses with healthcare experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred (must provide certification or diploma/transcript). </li><li>Current CNA Certification (state registration) or Adult Education Medical Assisting Certificate Program with healthcare experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred (must provide certification.) </li><li>Completion of Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide training program with healthcare experience in a hospital or other healthcare setting preferred (must provide verification of training). </li><li>Current National Medical Assistant Certification with 2-3 years of experience as an MA, CNA or in direct patient care, with experience within the last ten years. </li><li>Current EMT Certification. </li></ul> <p>All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.</p> <ul> <li>Sign On Bonus - half on hire and remainder after 90 days in good standing, former employees of HHSI not eligible. </li></ul>
