<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Immediate vacancy for a full time Literacy Specialist K-4 at East Elementary School beginning in the 2025-26 school year. All candidates must hold or be eligible for appropriate CT certification.</p> <p>Elementary Literacy Specialist (K-4)</p> <p>The Literacy Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Reading program in grades K-4. Primary responsibilities include articulating and monitoring the delivery of the Reading program in each grade and coaching teachers to ensure that they teach Reading effectively. Collaboration with the K-4 Reading Coordinator and other Reading specialists across the district about the Reading curriculum is expected as is supporting the district goals.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Curriculum and Instruction</p> <ul> <li>Help set annual goals for the improvement of the K-4 Reading program by consultation with the Reading Coordinator, district literacy team, and the building principal. </li><li>Observe teachers, model lessons and offer direction for improvement in Reading instruction. </li><li>Meet regularly with the building principal regarding Reading needs in the building. </li><li>Remain current with regard to evidence-based Reading instructional practices, including practices that are responsive to a range of learners, demonstrate a deep understanding of how to teach Reading, and be knowledgeable in curriculum design. </li><li>Meet regularly with K- 4 teachers about curriculum and implementation. </li><li>Interpret and articulate the present Reading curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the Board of Education, administration, staff, and parents. </li><li>Participate in Data Team, SST and PPT meetings. </li><li>Provide push-in and pull-out instruction to students as determined by need. </li><li>Plan and implement parent workshops and support parent communication about the Reading program. </li><li>Use diagnostic assessments to inform differentiated instruction. </li></ul> <p>Program Evaluation</p> <ul> <li>Regularly assess the K- 4 Reading program. </li><li>Review and analyze district-wide assessments including standardized test results with building administrators and the district Reading Coordinator, and work with the principal and teachers on developing action-plans and using the data to inform instruction. </li><li>Collaborate with teachers in the development of appropriate assessments in Reading. </li></ul> <p>Teacher Growth and Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Lead and support classroom teachers and grade-level teams in the delivery of the Reading program. </li><li>Provide and promote staff development among teachers, and participate in the design, planning and delivery of professional learning experiences related to Reading, including a range of job-embedded professional learning (coaching cycles, lesson study, etc.). </li><li>Disseminate research to staff related to Reading and serve as a resource for best practice in differentiating language arts instruction. </li><li>Identify and share information on appropriate professional learning workshops and conference opportunities. </li><li>Orient new teachers to the instructional program in Reading and language arts. </li><li>Design and implement appropriate support structures for non-tenured teachers. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Strong ELA Background</p> <p>Experienced Classroom Teacher</p> <p>Appropriate certifications required:</p> <p>013 Elementary Teaching Certificate</p> <p>102 Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts</p> <p>097 Reading and Language Arts Consultancy Preferred</p> <p>Please be sure to apply on our district website, www.ncps-k12.org and upload a cover letter, resume, three letters of recommendation, transcripts and a copy of your certification (if available)</p>
