Kalamazoo Valley Community College creates innovative and equitable opportunities that empower all to learn, grow, and thrive.</p> <p>About the Opportunity</p> <p>Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its team in the college's business services department. This position is responsible for preparing and verifying timely and accurate institutional payroll and related reports. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in accounting policies and procedures. This individual will work with employees and supervisors to answer payroll questions as well as process payroll and any necessary adjustments and corrections.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Review and analyze timesheets to ensure accuracy, work with employees and supervisors to correct errors, follow detailed steps to run payroll process. Answer payroll related questions. </li><li>Reconcile payroll accounts and review payroll liability accounts and earnings/deductions reports to ensure accuracy, including tax withholdings, retirement contributions, garnishments, etc. and determine appropriate corrective action when necessary. </li><li>Maintain payroll master file, prepare, update, and analyze reports relating to payroll, prepare journal entries, prepare payroll related audit work papers, send information, organize, and file paperwork as needed. </li><li>Prepare various state and federal forms and reports, prepare retirement reports and update employee information for retirement accounts, prepare internal claim vouchers, send payments for taxes, retirement funds, etc., assist in completing employment verifications, unemployment, worker's compensation, and garnishment forms, and process legal documents. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge and Skills Required</p> <p>Knowledge of acceptable accounting principles and practice</p> <p>Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures</p> <p>Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures</p> <p>Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures</p> <p>Knowledge of federal and state tax requirements</p> <p>Skill in computing and analyzing data</p> <p>Skill in reconciling financial records</p> <p>Skill in preparing worksheets and preparing reports.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Appropriate education, training, experience and talents are requirements for this position. An example of this would be an associate degree in accounting or a related field, and two years of related payroll experience.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Physical Demands: Work Hours: Core business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Longer hours may be needed occasionally.
