<p>Job Description</p> <p>Veterinary Technician Job Description - Small Animal General Practice</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians in delivering high-quality medical care to patients. This position involves technical expertise, client communication, and teamwork to ensure the well-being of both patients and pet owners.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist veterinarians in physical exams, diagnostics, and medical treatments </li><li>Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and fluid administration </li><li>Administer medications, vaccinations, and prescribed treatments </li><li>Monitor anesthesia and assist in surgical procedures </li><li>Conduct dental prophylaxis, including scaling and polishing </li><li>Take and develop radiographs (X-rays) as directed by the veterinarian </li><li>Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology) </li><li>Maintain accurate patient records and medical history documentation </li><li>Educate pet owners on preventive care, post-surgical care, and treatment plans </li><li>Assist in emergency situations, providing stabilization and critical care support </li><li>Ensure cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of treatment areas and equipment </li><li>Manage inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals </li><li>Train and mentor veterinary assistants as needed </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) required </li><li>Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, laboratory work, and patient handling </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment </li><li>Passion for patient care and continuous learning </li></ul> <p>Work Environment & Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs </li><li>Exposure to noise, odors, animal dander, and potential hazards </li><li>Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods </li></ul> <p>This job description outlines the primary duties and expectations for the Veterinary Technician position at this location.
