<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Office of Energy and Sustainability (OES) is seeking enthusiastic, collaborative, and motivated students to serve as campus Eco-Reps. The successful candidates will work with the Eco Rep Team Leads to administer the Eco Rep Program on Oberlin College and Conservatory campus, in collaboration with the Sustainability Manager.</p> <p>Eco-Rep programs exist at numerous colleges and universities across the US and have shown to be effective ways to shift student culture toward pro-sustainability behaviors through education and outreach. The goals of the program include providing peer-to-peer interaction to enhance students' knowledge and skills in successfully communicating sustainability to their peers, increasing overall student awareness of environmental actions and ways to effect individual and group change on campus, and institutionalizing environmental stewardship within the student body.</p> <p>This is a part-time position (3-5 hours per week) that will report to the Eco Rep Team Leads, with support from the Sustainability Manager. The necessary training required for this position will be provided at the beginning of the semester.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Eco Reps interact with students to implement programming that advances sustainability initiatives on campus. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate residence hall sustainability initiatives and address any sustainability issues that arise. </li><li>Coordinate with RAs in the creation and implementation of new sustainability initiatives. This includes collaboration with RAs to email residents with reminders related to sustainability topics/programs and holding hall meetings/events during the semester as requested or needed. </li><li>Organize events oriented towards promoting sustainability, and inspiring dialogue on the same. Eco-Reps will work together to create 1 or 2 events per semester. Events may include movie nights, potlucks, reusable creations fest, trivia, and the like. </li><li>Familiarize residents broadly with the Sustainable Infrastructure Program and carbon neutrality, as well as teach best practices on a day-to-day basis to reduce energy consumption (e.g. closing windows and not covering vents in the room). </li><li>Help coordinate and spread awareness of Ecolympics, the annual resource reduction competition. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Full-or part-time student at Oberlin College and Conservatory as of the 2025/2026 academic year with an interest in environmental sustainability issues (this may be from related classes, student groups, volunteerism, work, etc). Open to all class years. Applicants must have excellent communication and outreach skills, ability to successfully collaborate with faculty and staff, and be driven to advance sustainability through this program on campus.
