<p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK</p> <p>HOURS: Approximately 20 - 25 hours per week; Days and times will vary</p> <p>Under the general direction of the Senior Services Coordinator in the Recreation & Parks Department, operates seven- to thirteen-passenger vehicle to transport senior citizens, disabled, and other passengers over designated route. Responsible for safe, efficient and legal operation of vehicle; provides courteous assistance to passengers as needed. Must collect fares, and perform routine inspections and minor maintenance, and prepare reports on vehicles as required.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Drives vehicle over a designated route, including residential streets as well as major thoroughfares; makes frequent stops to board and discharge passengers. </li><li>Assists disabled and senior citizen passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle, including securing wheelchairs to restraining devices as needed. </li><li>Prepares daily records and reports of accidents, incidents and vehicle condition. </li><li>May be required to operate radio or other communication device to report status of vehicle or interruptions in service. </li><li>Required to clean and service vehicle with fuel. </li><li>Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe and lawful manner. </li><li>Ability to read a street map in finding unfamiliar locations quickly. </li><li>Ability to work in a time-structured environment under minimal direct supervision and to follow routine written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills in responding to situations and notifying the proper authorities in a timely manner. </li><li>Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public, including senior citizens and the disabled. Prior experience with senior citizens is a plus. </li><li>Must meet physical requirements as specified by the Federal Dept. of Transportation for coach operators as determined by a post-hire medical examination. </li><li>Must successfully complete post-hire SMART training program. </li><li>Random drug testing. </li><li>Ability to speak and read both Arabic and English preferred. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Must submit to a criminal history check, driving record check, drug screen, and physical prior to start. </li><li>Possession of valid Michigan Chauffeur's driver license and good driving record required. </li><li>Verification of satisfactory driving record (including no more than three (3) current points) </li></ul>
