The Indiana State Fire Marshal leads the Division of Fire and Building Safety (within IDHS), which oversees the enforcement of building codes and includes a fire investigations unit. The agency certifies and trains thousands of first responders and also hosts state-level exercises each year. IDHS also supports the state Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which leads response and coordination efforts for large-magnitude incidents.</p> <p>Role Overview:</p> <p>Makes significant recommendations and decisions ensuring the agency fiscal process (budgeting procedures) are followed and completed based on federal, state, and agency policy. General objectives and boundaries are planned with the controller and / or appointing authority. Performs all assigned duties with a high degree of independence. Work is reviewed for impact on and consistency with agency goals and objectives. Will be required to judge when and how often to ask questions affecting work decisions, performance, and agency policy, and be capable of non-routine decision making and interactions in overseeing and administering various reports.</p> <p>Salary Statement:</p> <p>The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.</p> <p>A Day in the Life:</p> <p>The essential functions of this role are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>Certify the accurate reporting of agency financial data with respect to area of assignment. </li><li>Assist controller in developing annual and biennium budget(s). </li><li>Responsible for the monitoring of expenditures are met in accordance with grant provisions. </li><li>Assist controller in monitoring expenditures on an ongoing basis to ensure budget compliance. </li><li>Review contracts to verify funding source and adherence to annual budget. </li><li>Assist in preparation of financial data for monthly and quarterly financial reviews. </li><li>Work with contract compliance officer on all financial related matters. </li><li>Assist in the development of performance measures for contracts and programs. </li><li>Assist controller in developing and / or revising funding models for current or future agency programs. </li><li>Analyze and research issues of interest for other program areas within the agency, identifying patterns and trends. </li></ul> <p>The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
