<p>About Us</p> <p>Savannah State University established in 1890, is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university's students select majors from four colleges - Business Administration, Education, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Sciences and Technology. Beneath the beauty and splendor is a vibrant residential campus bursting at the seams with the vim and vigor of quality collegiate life: relevant academic majors, engaging lectures, cutting-edge research, quality student-faculty engagement and a nurturing environment.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>This position provides appropriate learning experiences in English for Writing and Grammar, Listening and Speaking, and Reading for each ELI student assigned to the class. The incumbent will teach one or more courses during the semester in Reading, Writing/Grammar and Listening/Speaking. Courses are taught Monday - Thursday between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Provides Instruction</p> <ul> <li>Teach English language skills to non-native speakers, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening </li><li>Teaches at an appropriate instructional level </li><li>Provides content development that builds for transfer into College or University </li><li>Develop and implement lesson plans that are aligned with the ELI curriculum and meet the needs of the individual students </li></ul> <p>Assesses and Encourages Student Progress</p> <ul> <li>Promotes student engagement while maintaining accurate attendance, grades, and progress records. </li><li>Monitors student progress through regular quizzes, tests, and assignments </li><li>Responds to adequate and inadequate student progress, providing constructive feedback to students to help improve their language skills. </li><li>Supports students with a variety of teaching methods, materials, and technology to engage and enhance learning </li></ul> <p>Manages the Learning Environment</p> <ul> <li>Uses time efficiently and maintains a practical physical setting for instruction </li><li>Maintain appropriate student-instructor behavior in the classroom </li><li>Collaborate with other instructors and administrators to support ELI student learning and development. </li><li>Attend professional development workshops and conferences to stay up-to-date on the latest teaching methods and technology. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Reading, Education, Linguistics </li><li>Experience, Skill, and Certification: ESOL Certification or TESOL/TESL/TEFL Certificate position </li><li>Previous teaching experiences, preferably ESL or EFL context </li></ul> <p>Contact Information</p> <p>For more information or questions about a job posting, please contact the Department of Human Resources at hr@savannahstate.edu.
