<p>August 22, 2025</p> <p>SCHOOL CITY OF EAST CHICAGO</p> <p>2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR</p> <p>POSTION: Special Education Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education</p> <p>CONTRACTED DAYS 185 Days</p> <p>Speech and Language Pathology Assistant Job Description:</p> <p>As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you Will play an essential role In supporting the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) In providing speech and language therapy to Individuals With communication disorders Your collaborative efforts Will help Improve the communication skills and overall quality of life for clients This exciting and rewarding role requires a blend of technical knowledge, Interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping others.</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Three Years of experience in Special Education </li><li>State Indiana License as a Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant as required by the jurisdiction </li><li>Two years' experience with School Based Therapy </li><li>Two years' experience with Progress Monitoring and Documentation and Logging of Services in the students' IEP </li><li>Experience coordinating services and schedules </li><li>Must have experience and knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and </li></ul> <p>Individualized Education Programs. (Article 7 and IDEA)</p> <p>Desired Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively Interact and communicate With clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals </li><li>Strong Interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and create a supportive and comfortable therapeutic environment </li><li>Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and development of speech and language. </li><li>Understanding of speech and language disorders, their causes, and commonly used assessments and treatment techniques, </li><li>Ability to adapt therapy techniques and strategies to meet the unique needs of Individual clients </li><li>Proficient in using technology and computer-based programs for documentation, research, and therapeutic purposes. </li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple clients simultaneously </li><li>Compassionate and patient demeanor to work effectively with students of all ages and backgrounds </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, Including SLPs, occupational therapists, and educators </li><li>Ability to maintain, log and record all services in the IEP services to remain in compliance with Article 7 and IDEA laws. </li></ul> <p>Speech Language Pathology Assistant Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>May Assist the Speech Language Pathologist in conducting assessments, screenings, and evaluations to identify communication disorders in student by collecting data and working in conjunction with the SLP under their guidance. </li><li>Implement therapeutic Interventions and treatment plans under the supervision and guidance of the SLP </li><li>Provide one-on-one or group therapy sessions to students incorporating various techniques and exercises to Improve speech, language, and swallowing abilities. </li><li>Document and maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress, goals, and treatment sessions. </li><li>Collaborate with the SLP to develop and modify Individualized treatment plans based on student needs and progress. </li><li>Monitor and track student progress through objective measures such as standardized testing, observations, and data collection. </li><li>Support clients In the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and technologies, as needed </li><li>Assist In the preparation and Implementation of therapy materials, equipment, and resources </li><li>Provide guidance and instruction to family members, caregivers, and teachers on strategies to support students' communication goals and objectives </li><li>Stay up-to-date with current research, advancements, and best practices in speech and language pathology. </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION DEADLINE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED</p> <p>Please send a letter of interest to: (Include Special Bulletin #</p> <p>This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.
