<p>The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics - Division of Medical Genetics, is seeking a Dietician/Metabolic Nutritionist - .</p> <p>To plan for and provide nutritional services for patients and families with inborn errors of metabolism. To provide consultation and training for other health professionals in Iowa who may be working with this patient population.</p> <p>Duties to include:</p> <ul> <li>Provides appropriate nutritional counseling and education to individuals, or their parents, with metabolic disorders. </li><li>Consults with medical and nursing staff regarding metabolic patient's care. </li><li>Staffs with providers covering metabolic clinic (during/immediately following clinic). </li><li>Responds to referrals and consults, recommends and implements diet orders accordingly. </li><li>Monitors biochemical indices to assess effectiveness of dietary treatment. </li><li>Monitors growth parameters as a means of assessing adequacy/appropriateness of dietary treatment. </li><li>Maintains consistent patient follow-up program for management of metabolic disorders. </li><li>Initiates and maintains comprehensive nutrition and dietary records for each patient. </li><li>Monitors active metabolic clinic patients when they are admitted to hospital and advises inpatient staff. </li><li>Develops age-appropriate teaching modules for children/parents of children with Phenylketonuria (PKU) to document ability understanding of phenylalanine (PHE)-restricted diet. </li><li>Participates in the development of metabolic and treatment protocols. </li><li>Participates in research projects, and in the education and training of students in the metabolic area. </li><li>Provides consultation and education services regarding metabolic disorder to physicians, regional nutritionists, and other professionals involved in the care of the metabolic patient. </li><li>Attends outreach metabolic clinics (6 per year). </li><li>Participates in the development and presentation of staff seminars, nutrition rounds, reports, and conference summaries. </li><li>Maintains formula sample inventory. Orders formula for patients. </li><li>Provides consultation to the Metabolic Food Program about appropriate foods for the program and patients who are eligible for the program. </li><li>Attends Clinical & Molecular Genetics Case Conference and Genetics Journal Club weekly. </li><li>Demonstrates respect for all members of the University community in the course of performing one's duties and in response to administrators, supervisors, coworkers and customers. </li><li>Represents the interests of the University and of unit leadership in the use of resources to meet service and productivity demands within unit goals and budgets; strives to promote continual process and quality improvement. </li><li>Seeks opportunities to enhance one's own professional knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to one's current position and/or to prepare for potential future roles and overall career development. </li></ul> <p>About the Department of Pediatrics:</p> <p>The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is a national leader in pediatric medicine.
