<p>Job Description and Duties</p> <p>Do you want to support California's natural resources in the work you perform every day? You can have an impact by working collaboratively to help fulfill the Department of Fish and Wildlife's mission. The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Fish Habitat Assistant in our Red Bluff field office.</p> <p>Leads and performs tasks involved in the fabrication and construction of fish screens, fish ladders and other fish habitat improvement structures demonstrating a working knowledge of steel, concrete and wood construction techniques. Helps in the completion of fish habitat restoration project assessment including monitoring and evaluation activities. The actions involved with these tasks require the periodic use of ATV's, heavy equipment, boats and other equipment. The use of a respirator and participation in the states' respiratory protection program are required.</p> <p>Helps coordinate and leads in the installation and maintenance of fish screens, fish ladders and other fish habitat improvement structures. Performs difficult repairs, modifications and adjustments on these structures. Evaluates and/or troubleshoots existing electrical systems; installs new electrical components to repair existing electrical systems.</p> <p>Works on habitat improvement projects such as barrier removal, livestock exclusionary fencing, and/or development and construction of stream and lake structures which improve spawning and rearing conditions. Works as a lead person for subordinates and inmate crews on the implementation of these projects. Implements and maintains appropriate records for facility safety program including weekly and quarterly safety meetings and associated reports.</p> <p>Please refer to the Duty Statement for specific duties and functions.</p> <p>In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.</p> <p>Class Title: Fish Habitat Assistant</p> <p>This position is being re-advertised. Willingness to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays. Overtime, camping and travel will be required on occasion. Required to operate heavy equipment, Class A vehicles, various types of boats and ATV's. Possess a valid Boaters Card and Driver's License; a Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement is required or must be obtained within one year as a condition of permanent appointment to this position. The use of personal protective equipment is required (e.g., eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, etc.) to perform all aspects of the essential job functions previously described in a safe manner. The incumbent is required to use respiratory protection equipment while painting with oil-based paints or during other activities producing noxious/hazardous fumes. As such, Cal/OSHA requires that the incumbent be annually medically cleared to be fit-tested for respiratory protection equipment. Additionally, the incumbent is required to participate annually in the CDFW Respirator Protection Program.
