<p>PURPOSE OF POSITION</p> <ul> <li>The purpose of this position is to ensure that specimens are being registered, ordered, and processed correctly according to established policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with the ALS, Microbiology, Virology, and Send Out departments to make sure that specimens are being registered, ordered, and processed correctly. </li><li>Scan requisitions into Cerner. </li><li>Answer phones and provide excellent customer service. </li><li>Perform accurate patient and insurance data entry into Cerner. </li><li>Order lab work from OPD, ALS and CareEvolve requisitions </li><li>Properly process and prepare specimens for testing </li><li>Load the automated track according to established guidelines </li><li>Centrifuge and separate specimens according to test requirements </li><li>Aliquot as necessary </li><li>Monitor and empty tube system punctually, checking for stats and prioritizing work </li><li>Uphold and follow all hospital and department policies and procedures </li><li>Adhere to all established safety and Infection Control Policies </li><li>Maintain instrumentation/equipment in good working order </li><li>Provide technical information to laboratory "customers" and appropriately direct questions to the Unit Director and/or other Technical Specialists as indicated </li><li>Uphold and practice the highest level of professional integrity in all daily work functions, including confidentiality of patient records </li><li>Assists in projects or other tasks assigned by the Unit Director </li><li>Troubleshoot problems that arise </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Unit Director. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>High School Graduate or equivalent </li><li>Must have some experience with medical terminology </li><li>Must have basic computer skills </li><li>Must be able to multi-task and maintain focus on duties. </li><li>Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, management, and other healthcare personnel </li></ul> <p>All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li>Department Hours: 24 hours/day, 365 days/year </li><li>Work hours are assigned by the Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Unit Director and can be on any shift depending upon the staffing needs of the department </li><li>Requires Saturday/Sunday and Holiday rotation </li><li>Requires occasional paid overtime before or after normal working hours, if approved </li><li>Works in a well-lighted and ventilated laboratory </li></ul>
